Pokémon: Sword & Shield

Expansion Pass (and More)

In the past, Pokémon games were usually superseded by an enhanced version (or versions), which added new features to the original game. For example, after Pokémon Sun and Moon came out, Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon were released, with a new storyline related to the Legendary Pokémon "Necrozma" IconNecrozma, new Pokémon forms and Ultra Beasts, plus a meaty post-game mission.

Note that Sword and Shield each have a separate expansion pass.

For this generation, Nintendo and The Pokemon Company will be releasing a paid Expansion Pass for Sword and Shield instead. The expansion pass will be divided into two sets of content.

  1. The Isle of Armor: This will be released before the end of June 2020.

  2. The Crown Tundra: This will be released during Autumn 2020.

Both of these will feature brand new environments, new Pokémon, additional story, new gameplay features, as well as 100+ returning Pokémon each (for a total of 200+). Once the content is released, you can use your current save data to play it. To access the new content, you must have reached the Wild Area, which occurs within the first few hours of the game.

Welcome to our comprehensive strategy guide for Pokémon: Sword and Shield, the latest entries in the Pokémon video game franchise. Our guide also incorporates all the DLC, including the Isle of Armor and brand new Crown Tundra DLC.

In Sword and Shield, you explore the Galar region, based on the United Kingdom, alongside rivals Hop, Bede and Marnie, with the aim to dethrone the Pokémon League Champion.

The games introduce several new features such as Dynamaxing and Gigantamaxing, functions that increase size and change forms of certain Pokémon; the Wild Area, a large open world with free camera movement; and raids with co-op battling. They also reintroduce features previously seen in Sun and Moon and Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Let’s Go, Eevee!, such as regional variants and roaming Pokémon depicted in the overworld.
