Diablo IV

Does Diablo 4 Have Co-op and Couch Co-op?

By
Craig Robinson

Diablo 4 is back, and returns with the grim and moody mists of Diablo 2 alongside its demon filled world inside an open-world setting. At heart, the Diablo franchise has been a coop experience, whether that be friends competing on the ladder, or you and your friends fighting bosses together in the story. The good news is that Diablo 4 is not taking that coop experience away, as there is going to be online and couch coop in Diablo 4.

Blizzard confirms you can play two player couch coop in Diablo 4, which can even happen in the Open Beta in March. Image via Blizzard Entertainment.

How many coop players can you have in Diablo 4?

For players taking part in Diablo 4’s multiplayer experience, players can create parties of four people. This will allow four players to experience Diablo 4 in coop through the internet. You can group up together and explore the open world, perhaps even adventure through the many dungeons in each region. Or perhaps you are forming a party to take on one of the many Diablo 4 world bosses, such as Ashava. You can also play coop with those on different platforms thanks to cross-play integration, allowing you to team up with players on the PlayStation, Xbox, and PC platforms.

Of course, the party size is only a small restriction on the scale of the multiplayer experience. When you’re out and about in the world, you will be online. The result is you will encounter players running around the world and in various player-friendly settlements, granting a somewhat MMO-like experience.

Does Diablo 4 Have Couch Coop?

If you’d rather have a night in with a friend, family member or partner and decide it’s time to beat some demons, then players can experience Diablo 4 in couch coop. Unlike Diablo 4’s multiplayer coop experience, Diablo 4’s couch coop experience is limited to two players.

If you’re looking to play the Diablo 4 beta in couch coop, then you only need the main user with access to the beta. It means you can invite a friend over and play the game in couch coop with only one user with beta access. Therefore, it’s a great opportunity for those ready to take advantage of the exclusive pre-order beta and experience it on couch coop a week before the open beta that arrives through March 24-27. However, we are not sure how this works for the full game. We’ve contacted outreach associated with Blizzard for an answer, so hopefully, we can provide you with more information there at a later date.

Moreover, the game has integration that will allow players to both open their inventory, skills and builds independently of another. It means that one player can continue to explore and fight, while another player can look and spend that new talent point, change a spell, or drop some terrible items they just accidentally picked up. All of this is because of the freshly designed UI, which can change depending on the input method. So, if you use controller, you’ll have a different UI compared to those on mouse + keyboard. Therefore, those who enjoyed the console experience in Reaper of Souls will find that Diablo 4 is much better suited for console players too!

And there you have it. This about sums up everything you need to know about Diablo 4’s online coop, and Diablo 4’s couch and local coop experience.
