Diablo IV

Where to Get Malignant Rings - Diablo 4 Patch 1.2.2

By
Nathan Garvin

The main gameplay addition during Season 1 was Malignant Hearts, which essentially functioned as jewels (for you Diablo II veteran out there) - socketable objects that could be inserted into jewelry (rings and amulets) to provide a specific boon or modifier. In an attempt to preserve some of Season 1’s content even after the end of the season, Blizzard Entertainment has patched in five new unique rings that bear modifiers similar in function to some of the old Malignant Hearts. These new uniques, known as Malignant Rings can be found as of 1.2.2, and this page will provide information regarding their stats and where to farm Malignant Rings in Season 2 of Diablo 4.

Malignant Rings are uniques that bear some of the properties of Malignant Hearts from Season 1.

Malignant Ring Stats

There are five Malignant Rings in Diablo 4 as of the time of this writing - one for each class. This is a significant cut from the 32 Malignant Hearts that cluttered inventories in Season 1, but not all the Malignant Hearts you could find were winners - let’s just be honest. Fortunately, some of the more useful powers granted by Malignant Hearts have made their way onto Malignant Rings. Like all uniques, Malignant Rings also have various stats they roll with - the stats themselves are guaranteed, but the range is variable. Below you’ll find a list of all the Malignant Rings in the game, the stats they spawn with, and their unique property:

Where to Find Malignant Rings

Like any unique item, Malignant Rings can drop anywhere in World Tier 3 or World Tier 4. Fortunately they’re not uber uniques, so they’re just fairly rare, instead of prohibitively rare. You can find them in both season and non-season play from any source that can yield any other unique (which is pretty much every source of loot save for gambling. That said, even the more common uniques are still somewhat rare, and if you’ve got the resources and a great yearning for one of these rings, you can expedite the process.

Numerous, repeatable bosses have been added to the game following Season 1, one of which is the Echo of Varsha. The Echo of Varshan, like most of these repeatable bosses, has a high chance of dropping a unique item from a list of unique drops that varies by boss, and the Echo of Varshan just so happens to have all five Malignant Rings on his drop list. He won’t drop a unique every time you kill him, but he will drop one most of the time, and since only items for your current class will drop, there are only about six different uniques you can get from the Echo of Varshan, one of which, of course, being that class’s Malignant Ring. We were able to get three such trinkets in under a dozen runs, and while those odds might be more generous than the average drop rate, if you keep running the Echo of Varshan you’ll get what you’re looking for.

To farm the Echo of Varshan you’ll need to offer up malignant body parts (Blackened Femurs, Gurgling Heads, Malignant Hearts, and Trembling Hands) which will randomly drop from reward caches earned from completing Grim Favors for the Tree of Whispers and from Grotesque Debtors - elite enemies that will randomly spawn when you complete various events and activities. Running Grim Favors for the Tree of Whispers is by far the quickest and most lucrative way to get the materials you’ll need to summon the Echo of Varshan, and hence, attempt to farm Malignant Rings.
