Lanayru Caves

Vincent Lau

Lanayru Desert

(1 of 2) First, a quick detour: Head for the north-east part of the desert, towards the loop-shaped area.

First, a quick detour: Head for the north-east part of the desert, towards the loop-shaped area. (left), Head through the cavern, then use your Clawshots to traverse the quicksand. (right)

Now, an explanation on the Clawshots. They use a targeting system much like the Slingshot or the Gust Bellows – you point and press A to trigger the effect.

What is the effect? You can be drawn to certain target-like tiles in the area (they are scattered throughout the desert). You do the same with vines, too! Unlike the Hookshot of Wind Waker, you cannot use it to grab treasure. sigh

Anyhow, go west upon regaining control to find one such Clawshot target. Hit it with the aforementioned item and get on the ledge to find a Dusk Relic in the chest.

Next, go to the northeastern portion of the desert where there’s a path under the sand leading to a narrow looped path. You may have ventured here earlier to grab Heart Piece 21.

Whether you have that Heart Piece or not, head over there. Bomb the northeastern wall, if you haven’t done so already. Go through the cavern and defeat some Yellow Chuchus. At the end is the chest with a Piece of Heart! (Or an empty chest.)

Goddess Cube 21

(1 of 2) Goddess Cube: At end of loop-shaped path towards the north-east. Clawshots required.

Goddess Cube: At end of loop-shaped path towards the north-east. Clawshots required. (left), Treasure Chest: Island north of Skyloft with a deep pool of water. Dive into the water and spin attack at the end. (right)

Nearby should be a canyon of quicksand, completely filled with Clawshot targets. Use the Clawshots to go from target to target. At the end of this path, you’ll find Goddess Cube 21. Hit it with a Skyward Strike.

Goddess Cube 22

(1 of 2) Goddess Cube: Near the area with the cages towards the south. Use the Clawshots to reach the top of the wall to the west.

Goddess Cube: Near the area with the cages towards the south. Use the Clawshots to reach the top of the wall to the west. (left), Treasure Chest: Island south-west of Skyloft that’s split into two halves. After landing, climb down the vines to an alcove below. (right)

Drop down to the hidden path. Follow it straight and go towards the cage filled area. There, Clawshot the quicksand pit target to find Goddess Cube 22. Also hit it with a Skyward Strike.

From there, continue westward and past the Hrok’s tree. Clawshot onto the wall opposite you to find a chest (Red Rupee) and a mine cart. Push the latter off of the ledge for a future shortcut.

Next, follow your little shortcuts made in previous trips to the sandfall in the west. Once there, hop onto the higher ledge and hit the Clawshot target with the Clawshots to get on the ledge. Go into the caverns.

Lanayru Caves

(1 of 2) Make your way to the west and use the Clawshots to reach this high-up ledge

Make your way to the west and use the Clawshots to reach this high-up ledge (left), The Lanayru Caves is a tiny area that acts as a crossroads. (right)

Once you arrive, head forward along the linear path to the central room. Here, look for the group of Blessed Butterflies and play the Goddess Harp to make a Gossip Stone appear.

Now, you can take the eastbound path from here by using the Clawshots. You’ll arrive in the entrance room of the Lanayru Mine.

If you want, use the Clawshots to traverse the bottomless pit, then go around to the very back of the mine to find a chest with an Evil Crystal. Be mindful of the Deku Shrubs along the way. Afterwards, return to the caves.

(1 of 2) Speak to Golo to get the Small Key for this area.

Speak to Golo to get the Small Key for this area. (left), Use the key to unlock the exit to the west. (right)

Once you’re back in the caverns, assuming you even left, you’ll find a Goron, Golo, nearby. Speak with him and you’ll learn that he is attempting to carve out an inaccessible path on your map.

Speak with him to also get a Small Key. You can on the stool nearby to restore some health and/or to donate rupees to Golo’s digging fund.

Next, try throwing around some Bomb Flowers at the rock pilings nearby, then roll them into the tunnels they reveal. You’ll be able to find a few Rupees nearby.

Finish up any other business you may have here, then exit to the west by Clawshotting the target above the door and go through the aforementioned door.
