Yrliet is the Aeldari companion you can acquire on Janus, who is proficient with Aeldari sniper weaponry. You are going to want to keep her playstyle the same, thanks to her build being highly proficient in analyzing key enemies and popping them for some of the most powerful critical strikes in the game. So, if you intend to have the best Rogue Trader Companion for shooting on your roster, here is a closer look at a Yrliet Build in Rogue Trader.
Yrliet Sniping Build for Rogue Trader¶
So, the premise of this build is to create a Yrliet build that enables her to be a very powerful sniper. You’ll automatically have Operator selected; that’s fine, along with some of its talents, since she is an Chapter 2 Companion. However, you’re free to choose most of her base talents and then Archetype. You’ll want Bounty Hunter for the build due to special synergies available for securing crits against Prey. You’ll want to do this, as it means she can distribute a lot of damage very easily across several enemies per turn.
Operator Build¶
Order | Unlock 1 | Unlock 2 |
---|---|---|
1 | Analyse Enemies | – |
2 | Optional | – |
3 | Expose Weakness | – |
4 | Dismantling Attack | Sharpshooter |
5 | Perception | Nimble |
6 | Ballistic Calculations | Perception |
7 | Precise Attacks | Optional |
8 | Fresh Target | Swift Movements |
9 | Dismantling Attack 3 | Optional |
10 | Optional | Ballistic Skill |
11 | Insightful Precision | Optional |
12 | Perfect Spot | Las Weapon Expert |
13 | Comprehensive Analysis | Ballistic Skill |
14 | Intelligence | Swift Sight |
15 | Dismantling Attack 2 | – |
The main focus of the build is all about fulfilling the sniper fantasy. The skills and talents like Sharpshooter, Perfect Spot, Precise Attack, and more will ensure Yrliet can land any attack she needs. More importantly, using Precise Attack with its talent upgrade grants a bucket load of Perception. Having 10 Analysis stacks on a target is a +5 to Perception, which can give you the bonus. But, the more points you have on the characteristic, the more likely you are to hit an enemy anyway since the dodge chances on the ranged attack are calculated by subtracting their dodge vs the shooter’s Perception. All in all, it makes hitting targets for the rest of the fight easier.
Also, note that when you get a special sniper at the end of Chapter 2 called the Eye of Hecaton, you’ll be able to move, shoot, and move again. This will negate some of your talents for standing still or being in cover, but at least you can mobile snipe and get better lineups, along with having the option to stay still in the same spot. It’s a sniper’s dream of being able to run both playstyles and have benefits for both of them.
More importantly, Yrliet will want to cast Analyse Enemies on a target per turn. An Operator hitting a target with a stack grants an additional 10% per stack on the target. More damage is not something to ignore, especially when you’re hitting 40-50 in the early game before reaching 100s in the mid and late game. You can also bring another Operator in the squad with you, like Idira and Pasqal, who you can spec into, giving you better Analyse Enemies spread so Yrliet can make use of her Comprehensive Analysis talent for even more damage.
Bounty Hunter Build¶
Order | Unlock 1 | Unlock 2 |
---|---|---|
1 | Hunt Down the Prey | – |
2 | Piercing Shot | – |
3 | Heightened Concentration | – |
4 | Wild Hunt | – |
5 | AP increase + Ballistic Skill | Characteristics Training: Perception |
6 | Ballistic Skill | Hunting Surge |
7 | Cull the Bold | – |
8 | Pierce the Armour | Optional |
9 | Ballistic Skill | Characteristics Training: Ballistic Skill |
10 | Gruesome Kill | – |
11 | Optional | Agility |
12 | Wild Hunt 1 | – |
13 | Prescient Sight | – |
14 | Optional | Ballistic Skill |
15 | It Will Not Die | Claim the Bounty |
16 | Guidance | – |
17 | Perception | Optional |
18 | Expert Finesse | – |
19 | Penetrating Sight | – |
20 | Wild Hunt 3 | – |
The Bounty Hunter part of the tree is going to get as many secure crits and damage modifiers as possible, either through armor reduction, dodge reduction, or flat-out damage multipliers or modifiers. Meanwhile, there are some other talents and skills you want for future synergy, or debuffing enemies for team synergy. Dodge is by far the most important stat in Chapters 2 and 3, thanks to Drukhari dodge-kings and some really powerful Burst Fire toxic weapons. So, having high dodge, and lowering enemy dodge is very important for damage per-round efficiency. Therefore, Gruesome Kill is handy for killing Prey and lower Agility. A lower agility means less chance to dodge all attacks.
Other buffs like Guidance are also great for buffing allies’ armor penetration. So, place a Bounty on the stronger enemy type on the battlefield, crit them, and then you can hand out solid buffs to your allies until you reload, perfect for assassins. Most snipers have around 4+ turns for you to get benefits out of it, depending on bonus turns or how many extra times you managed to shoot. These are just some of the more highly profile facets of this build.
Exemplar Build¶
Order | Unlock 1 | Unlock 2 |
---|---|---|
1 | Masterful Precision | Tide of Excellence |
2 | Optional | Share the Spoils |
3 | Perception | Characteristics Training: Agility |
4 | intimidation | Optional |
5 | Deathdealer | Pierce and Ruin |
6 | Perception | Sniper Expertise |
7 | Ensnare the Prey | Perception |
8 | Catch | Optional |
9 | Optional | Cataclysm |
One of this Exemplar build’s main advantages is that you can now focus more on armor penetration. The reason for it is the Cull the Bold skill lowering dodge and armor. The more armor penetration you get, the more damage you deal to harder targets, and the lower their dodge the better chance both you and your allies can delete those tougher foes. You can also start taking some talents that buff your ability to deal damage from your sniping, especially from the Exemplar talents, while also grabbing better Exploit talents from the Operator tree.
After the ninth row, you’re essentially at the point where most other talents are dead or are offering extremely low values. These are likely more characteristics that boost perception, agility, or take some more exploit-related talents. When you get more Exemplar talents, a defensive option can be very good, such as Flesh Wounds, or another offensive one like the Masterful Display talent. Flesh Wound is likely more necessary thanks to limited health restoration against some of the tougher end-game fights, especially on harder difficulties. However, those cursing through can get away with more offensive ones.
This concludes the Yrliet Build in Rogue Trader. You should now know what to expect from this sniping and high-damage ceiling powerhouse and how to build her.

Yrliet cannot take Bloody Mess for Bounty Hunter Level 9 Unlock 2. It's not an option.
I don't think Yrliet can take any Voidborn talents actually. Her homeworld is listed as Craftworld Crudarach, which doesn't appear to have any unique abilities for it.
Thanks a bunch! I was also thinking that Ballistics Skill training was the best choice.
It looks like Prescient Sight is selectable there, actually. I'm still a level away, but when I look at the Available Talents list for that level, it does show up.
I updated her build. Replaced it with Character Training: Ballistic Skill since there isn't much else I can recommend without disrupting the flow of he entire build. Thanks for spotting that out again. Sucks she ain't a Voidborn anymore. Suppose 10% chance to double her damage since she always crit with Piercing Shot was pretty busted, so I can see why they changed it at the last minute :P
I presume you can't take Prescient SIght in option 13 either? That option on my review save is blank despite the completed build so I'm not sure if it is another change I'm dealing with or not.
