How to Get Blood Essences

By
Scott Peers

This page covers everything related to Blood Essence in V Rising, including where to find Blood Essence, how to stockpile it for your Castle Heart, how to extract it from Rats and Tainted Hearts, and an overview of its many uses in crafting.

Where to Find Blood Essence

Kill Living Humanoids and Creatures

As a vampire, blood is at the heart of everything you do. The most basic expression of this is in Blood Essence, which is primarily used to feed your Castle Heart to ensure that your castle doesn’t decay, but also used in numerous crafting recipes which are essential to the process of constructing a castle. You’ll need a constant supply of Blood Essence throughout your time in Vardoran, so it’s a good thing that it’s one of the easiest items to obtain. All you need to do is kill any living humanoid or creature which has blood flowing through its veins, at which point you’ll receive an amount of Blood Essence based on the type, size, and level of the opponent. In general, you should be getting multiple Blood Essences from each enemy that you slay, usually between 7-14 for most enemies that you’ll encounter in the starting area of Farbane Woods. You’ll get the Blood Essence regardless of whether you feed on the enemy, or if you just kill it without feeding. It goes without saying that you won’t acquire any Blood Essence from undead enemies.

Power and Fortify Your Castle Heart with Blood Essence

It won’t be long before you find that you have an abundance of Blood Essence. You can stack most of this in your Castle Heart initially, to ensure that the structure of the castle remains powered and fortified, shielding it from enemy attacks and maintaining the roof, which will protect you from the burning effects of sunlight. You can store up to 500 Blood Essence in a level 1 Castle Heart initially, as two stacks of 250 Blood Essence. This will provide a total of 2 days, 18 hours, and 40 minutes for your Castle Heart to be powered and the castle walls fortified. This can be upgraded to 5 days, 13 hours, and 20 minutes if you store 1,000 Blood Essence in a level 2 Castle Heart. Note that this is counted as real-world time, but the timer will pause if there’s nobody playing on the server.

Use the Blood Press to Extract Blood Essence from Rats and Tainted Hearts

Whenever you kill humanoids and creatures, there’s a chance that they will drop Tainted Hearts. These are the most basic form of heart that can drop from an enemy, and 4 of them can be refined into 60 Blood Essence using the Blood Press crafting facility in your castle. If you’ve constructed the Blood Press within a room which has matching Alchemy Lab Flooring throughout it, the materials required for refinement will be reduced by -25%. This means that you can refine 3 Tainted Hearts to yield 60 Blood Essence. The same goes for rats, which can also be refined into Blood Essence with the same ratio to yield. You can also refine 150 Blood Essence (once you have matching Alchemy Lab Flooring) into 1 Greater Blood Essence, which are quite difficult to obtain early on, but we’ll cover more about Greater Blood Essences on their own page.

Blood Essence in Crafting and Castle Building

Aside from Castle Heart maintenance and refining processes, Blood Essences are also used in a number of crafting recipes and castle building structures. The first time you’ll encounter this is when you construct the Castle Heart, which costs 30 Blood Essence and 240 Stone. You’ll then need to establish the borders of your castle based on square layouts, each of which costs 2 Blood Essence and 20 Stone. the Blood Altar, which is used to track bosses including those you’ve yet to kill, those you’ve killed, and the rewards you get from each, requires 10 Blood Essence. Some of the crafting equipment requires a bit more, with 100 Blood Essence for the Alchemy Table, 200 for the Tailoring Bench and 200 for the Smithy. In addition, pretty much every square piece of flooring that you construct, whether inside or outside the castle, will cost you 4 Blood Essence each.
