V Rising

How to Increase your Sun Resistance

Matt Chard

As you progress deeper in V Rising, you may go into areas that give you various debuffs if you stay in there too long. This page will explain to you how the Sun mechanic works, and how you can manage it.

What is the Sun Mechanic

In V Rising, you play as a vampire, and like most vampire lore, the sun will hurt them. When it’s day time, naturally the sun will be out, and if you’re in the sun too long, you’ll start taking lots of damage over time until you die. This is a major mechanic in V Rising, and a lot of your early deaths could be attributed to it. When you stand in the sun, at first you’ll see a couple of sparks, and smoke appears around your character. After a little while, you’ll begin to see a sunbeam appear from above you, this is the last stage before you’ll start to take damage.

How to deal with the Sun

When you’re out exploring during the day, you’ll need to stick to the shade to get around safely. Thankfully the game does a great job of providing a lot of shade from all the various trees, rocks, cliffs, and even tents in encampments. If you start to get burnt from the sun, you can reset the timer by quickly running into some shade. You can increase the amount of time you can stay in the sun by increasing your Sun resistance. The higher it is, the longer you can stay in the sun before you start to take any damage.

Increasing your Sun Resistance

Your resistances can be found on the character screen, to the right of your equipment.

In the character screen accessed by tapping Tab-Filled, you’ll see the resistances to the right of your character. This will display all of your current resistances against each harmful effect such as Sun, Garlic, Holy, Fire, and Silver. By increasing your resistance to the Sun, you can stay in the sun longer before it begins to hurt you. At 0 Sun resistance, you’ll start getting the stages of being burnt by the sun. With 15 Sun resistance, you can stay in the sun 22.5% longer before the effects start to happen.

How to increase Sun Resistance

There are various methods to increase your resistance to the Sun. One way is by using consumables for a temporary buff which can last up to 20 minutes. The other and more permanent solution is by equipping gear that comes with Sun Resistance + X. Below you can find a list of all the consumables and equipment that can help you stay in the sun longer.

You can craft in the field by accessing your crafting menu in the Character screen. This allows you to make Minor Sun Resistance Brews on the go providing you have the materials.
