Angram the Purifier Boss Guide

By
Matt Chard

"Angram the Purifier" iconAngram the Purifier is a level 61 V Blood Boss in V Rising. Found in the "Pools of Rebirth" iconPools of Rebirth in Gloomrot South, Angram used to be an exterminator who had a penchant for natural cruelty. When he passed away, he was brought back to life by Doctor Henry Blackbrew, which made him lose any little piece of humanity he had left. Angram has access to the Chaos magic school where he’ll unleash volleys of Chaos Orbs across the battlefield which persist on the ground for a brief period. Defeating him will reward you with a Tier 3 Chaos Spell Point while unlocking the Dawnthorn Regalia armor set as well as the Mutated Rat, "Major Explosive Box" iconMajor Explosive Box, and the Irradiant Gruel recipes. Read on to find out his exact location and how you can defeat him.

Angram is a level 61 V Blood Boss in V Rising.

Angram the Purifier Location

Angram can be found in the Pools of Rebirth area located in the northwest of Gloomrot South. There are two Vampire Waygates relatively near to the location with one being north of the Pools of Rebirth, in Gloomrot North, and one south of it, in Gloomrot South. His exact location is here (Map Marker), and your best bet on reaching it is by following the paths from the south (Vampire Waygate), heading north along the path, take the west path at any of the next two intersections, and continuing along the path to the north. This will take you to the Pools of Rebirth, where it’s almost impossible to miss Angram.

Angram the Purifier Strategy

The first thing you’ll notice about Angram is his size. He is a big old boy with an even bigger gun. For the most part, Angram will unleash Chaos Orbs from his gun that will track your location and leave behind some flames that persist on the ground for a short time. Another gimmick of the battle is Angram will regularly switch between two types of shields, Front Barrier and Inverse Barrier. The former will cover the front of him, leaving his back exposed, while the latter will do the opposite and cover his back, leaving the front exposed. If you attack the shielded part of Angram, the damage you deal will get reflected back at you, so only attack the exposed part. Let’s take a look at all of Angram’s attacks.

  • Melee Combo: Angram will perform a two-hit combo, with the first attack being a forward punch with his right hand followed up with a slam with the same hand. He’ll only use this when you’re in melee range, so make sure you don’t stand in one spot when you attack him.

  • Rocket Punch: Angram will launch himself across the area with a rocket-propelled punch. This will briefly incapacitate (stun) you for a brief moment. Wait until Angram gets closer to you and then dodge through the attack to avoid it.

  • Tracking Shot: Angram will raise his left arm and unleash up to six chaos orbs that will track your location. These orbs will explode shortly after, leaving behind a pool of chaos energy that persists for a short while. This will damage you if you walk through it. To avoid the attack, keep moving in one direction until the attack finishes, preferably in a place (away from the boss) where the lingering chaos energy won’t be in your way.

  • Wide Volley: Angram will fire out five chaos orbs in a wide arc at your location. Like all the chaos orbs, these will explode, leaving behind lingering chaos energy that will damage you. Run toward the orbs and dodge toward the boss to avoid the attack.

  • Exhaust Shot: Angram will fire two chaos orbs behind him that explode and persist afterward. He’ll only use this attack when you attack his back. The best way to avoid this is to attack hit back a couple of times, dodge through to his front (provided Front Barrier isn’t active), and continue your onslaught there.

  • Sweeping Barrage: Angram will unleash numerous chaos orbs, one at a time, across the arena in a sweeping attack. This attack will repeat for a second time going back in the other direction. As always, these orbs will explode and leave behind a chaos puddle that persists for a short while. Stay back while he uses this attack, and only use your dodge if an orb is about to hit you. When you do use your dodge, head toward Angram where you’ll get an opening for an attack.

  • Frontal Barrier: Angram will place a barrier covering his front that will reflect the damage you do back to you. He’ll keep attacking while this is up. Either wait the shield out or attack Angrams back, but be careful of Exhaust Shot if you do.

  • Inverse Barrier: Angram will place a barrier covering his back that will reflect the damage you do back to you. He’ll keep attacking while this is up. Either wait the shield out or attack Angrams front.

(1 of 7) Melee Combo: Angram will throw an arm out in a punching motion straight ahead.

The most difficult part of this battle is the lack of safe room to maneuver in due to the lingering chaos energy that persists on the floor. What you want to do is stay back while he uses any of his non-melee attacks while being ready to dodge the Rocket Punch, and then dodge through the chaos energy to reach Angram where you can get some attacks on him. Another great opportunity for some attacks is when he uses his Inverse Barrier. Get behind him and attack his back as he won’t turn around while the shield is out, however, he will use Exhaust Shot, so be ready to dodge at a moment’s notice. For his melee attacks, the melee combo is easily avoided by dodging through the attack or getting some distance, but the Rocket Punch needs to be dodged when he’s about to reach you. That way, you can dodge the attack and position yourself to take advantage of the brief opening he leaves afterward.

(1 of 2) Frontal Barrier: This spell protects Angram from the front. Attacking the shield will reflect the damage back to you.

In short, Angram isn’t particularly difficult, but the room you get to maneuver in becomes smaller and smaller due to the chaos energy that lingers on the floor after the orbs explode. Simply, bait out his ranged attacks from a distance and then close in to attack the part of him that isn’t shielded. Due to the nature of this boss, you’ll want to constantly be on the move as Angram doesn’t let up with his bombardment of ranged attacks, and using movement-increasing spells such as "Blood Rage" iconBlood Rage, or the Veil of Chaos dodge will make this easier to avoid. Once you’ve defeated Angram, you’ll be rewarded with one Tier 3 Chaos Spell Point, the Dawnthorn Regalia armor set as well as the Mutated Rat, Major Explosive Box, and the Irradiant Gruel recipes.
