By
Matt Chard

"Morian the Stormwing Matriarch" iconMorian the Stormwing Matriarch is a level 70 Act 4 boss in V Rising who can be found in the "Harpy Nest" iconHarpy Nest situated in the south of Silverlight Hills. With access to a plethora of chaos-infused magic spells, the harpy is a challenging foe for any vampire, and she will reward you handsomely by giving you a Tier 2 Chaos spell point and the recipe for Flawless Gems. Read on to find out how to reach and defeat Morian.

Morian is a level 70 Act 4 boss in V Rising.

Morian the Stormwing Matriarch Location

You will find Morian in the Harpy Nest in Silverlight Hills. The easiest way to get to her is by teleporting to the northwestern "Farbane Woods Waygate" iconFarbane Woods Waygate (Map Marker), and following the path west of it, north. Continue along the path and you’ll reach the Harpy Nest (Map Marker). Upon reaching the Harpy Nest, you’ll need to fight your way to the Matriarch by battling her tribe as you reach the top where you’ll find Morian waiting for you.

Morian the Stormwing Matriarch Strategy

Like most bosses outside, it’s best to wait until night before attempting this battle due to the lack of shade. Equip the following spells to make your life easier: Veil of Chaos (second dodge), "Blood Rage" iconBlood Rage (increased movement speed, minor heal), "Power Surge" iconPower Surge (increased attack and movement speed), and the "Wisp Dance" iconWisp Dance ultimate (health leech and area of effect damage). For your weapon, we recommend Axes due to the extra attacks speed and dodge with "Frenzy" iconFrenzy, and high damage with "X-Strike" iconX-Strike. Alternatively, Greatsword, Slashers, and Pistols are also good picks if that’s what you prefer. Now, let’s take a look at Morian’s attacks.

  • Wing Slap: This is a simple melee attack. Morian will attack you with both wings at once. Either move away from her to avoid the attack or dodge through her to get some attacks of your own on her.

  • Wing Uppercut: Morian will fly over to you before performing an upward slash with her wing. You can sidestep this attack with no problems.

  • Divebomb: Morian will arch back before diving at you across the battlefield. Dodge to the side when contact is about to be made.

  • Chaos Volley: Morian will spread her wings and charge up her energy before unleashing three chaos orbs at you. This attack is easier to dodge when you’re at range as you won’t need to expend a dodge, however, Morian will use it when you’re right next to her. If this happens, dodge behind her to avoid the attack.

  • Summon Harpy: Throughout the battle, Morian will call down her children to help her. You can expect to see two to four harpies with each call. Defeat the harpies as soon as possible, so you only have to deal with Morian. We like Wisp Dance for this attack. Activate the skill, run over to the harpies who are normally grouped up, and attack away while your wisps deal damage to them while also leeching health with each attack. At low health, this “attack” will get another mechanic. Morian will disappear from the battlefield and unleash numerous chaos projectiles from random directions. This will persist until all the harpies are defeated.

  • Void Orbs: Morian will place a large void orb near herself. This will spawn numerous smaller void orbs across the battlefield that explode in the order that they appear. Back away from Morina, and keep out of the red markers to avoid the attack.

  • Twisting Discs: Morian will spin on the spot unleashing numerous projectiles across the battlefield. This is one of the more difficult attacks to avoid due to the number of discs thrown out. The easiest way to avoid it is to back away and then dodge through them as they get close to you. Veil of Chaos’ second dodge is useful for this attack.

(1 of 6) Wing Slap: Both wings will close in on you and slap together.

This battle is a lot easier than it looks. Outside of her Twisting Discs attack, the rest are relatively easy to avoid, although you may take a lot of damage when she summons her harpies, which is why you want to defeat them as soon as possible. For the first 20-25% of the battle, Morina will predominantly use her wing attacks, Chaos Volley, and Divebomb. After the first Summon Harpy phase, she’ll begin to throw Void Orbs into the mix more frequently. As her health continues to dwindle, Twisting Discs will appear more often. Around the 25-30% mark, she’ll chain together Twisting Discs, Divebomb, and then Void Orbs. Your best chances of attacking her are when she uses her wing attacks and Chaos Volley. Simply dodge through the attacks, throw an X-Strike at her, and then back away.

Don’t try and attack her when she uses Twisting Discs and "Void" iconVoid Orbs as you’ll end up taking more damage than what you deal to her. In general, her melee attacks should never hit you, Divebomb and Chaos Volley may hit you the odd time but good timing on your dodges should avoid them, and Void Orb should be easy enough to avoid provided you keep moving. It’s only her Twisting Discs attack which will cause you the most problems, and maybe the harpies she summons.

(1 of 2) Summon Harpy: Throughout the battle, Morian will summon a group of harpies. Defeat them as soon as possible.

Summon Harpy: Throughout the battle, Morian will summon a group of harpies. Defeat them as soon as possible. (left), Summon Harpy: When she does this at lower health, she’ll add a new mechanic where chaos projectiles will fly across the battlefield. (right)

For Twisting Discs, back away to the edge of the battlefield and head either right or left. When the discs get close to you, you should spot a safe space in front that you can dodge into. When Morian’s health gets low, her Summon Harpy attack will get one more mechanic where you’ll need to avoid chaos projectiles from random positions off-screen. This will continue until you defeat all of the harpies. As long as you don’t stand still, these shouldn’t hit you, but it is a possibility. Keep chipping away at her health, dodge the attacks that come at you more frequently, and Morian will perish. Upon defeat, you’ll be rewarded with a Tier 2 Chaos spell point and the Flawless Gems recipe. She can also drop an amulet, but that is a rare chance.
