Metaphor: ReFantazio

Exploring Altabury Heights

By
Jarrod Garripoli

Throughout your adventures in Metaphor: ReFantazio, you will visit many different towns. One of the later towns you will reach is Altabury Heights, which is the home of Sanctism. You won’t gain access to everything right away when you first arrive, but you can do most of the things upon your first visit. For other things, such as the Royal Virtue stuff, you will have to wait until later on, after some story bits.

Altabury Heights will be the fifth major town you visit during the game.

When you first arrive at Altabury Heights, it will be night, as you visit Louis. After that is over, your party decides on a place to stay, although the options are limited because of previous events. They pick a mustari-owned inn called the "Skyward Tavern" iconSkyward Tavern, which is located on Dia Franco Street. That’s your objective and going there will set off a chain of events that pretty much takes through two boss fights. It’s a good idea to do some exploring right away, then leave the rest of the things until later.

Altabury Heights: Gold Beetles

There are a total of six "Gold Beetle" iconGold Beetles to be found in Altabury Heights, although you can only get five of them when you first arrive. That’s because the last one is in an area that you won’t be able to fully explore until after the story beats. When you first arrive, you will be on Lunlumo Approach, a long street. As you head north, stick to the right side of the street and you will eventually see it not that far from the souther end (Gold Beetle #1). The second beetle is also found in the same area, but at the northern end.

At the northern end, right before the transition to the next area, you will see some stairs going down on your left and right. Take the stairs on the right and you will see Gold Beetle #2 at the bottom. Blue Sky Bridge is the second area of Altabury, and you will find all of the shops here. There are some stairs on the eastern side, leading to a path that brings you to the town’s magic shop, "Whitepeaks Magic Shop" iconWhitepeaks Magic Shop. Remember that it’s only open at night, so it’s good to go here when first arriving. Once inside, you will see a pot glowing on the southern end of the shop; inspect it for Gold Beetle #3.

The fourth beetle is on the western side Blue Sky Bridge, not far from the weapon shop. Go south from the weapon shop to find a little patio-like area, with a bunch of arches; Gold Beetle #4 will be right there. Exit north to Dia Franco Street, ignoring everything here, since there are no beetles. Upper Dia Franco Street has another exit to the north, by the water vendor, which takes you to the Opera House Square area. There is a long bridge on the eastern side, so go all the way to the end of it to find Gold Beetle #5.

(1 of 6) The first Gold Beetle is on Lunlumo Approach, on the right side.

The sixth, and final, beetle is located in the Skyward Tavern, but you don’t get full access to it until after the major events in Altabury. Once you get to the free time portion from 9/13 onwards, head to the tavern and in the main room, go to the one corner to find Gold Beetle #6.

Altabury: Side Quests and Bounties

There are three new side quests in Altabury, although one of those requires you to do something else first to get it to appear. Likewise, there is also one new bounty that unlocks upon reaching this town. With your gauntlet runner now being upgraded, you don’t have to waste a lot of days to travel to new dungeons, so it makes it less time consuming to do the side quests and bounties. None of the side quests will show up before 9/13. For "Defeat Milo" iconDefeat Milo, you have to speak with Loveless starting from 9/13, defeat him on his runner, then go back to Altabury to start the actual quest.

Quest Location Reward
"Warmth in Winter" iconWarmth in Winter Dia Franco Street "Mountaineer Gloves" iconMountaineer Gloves, Tolerance
"Proof of Power" iconProof of Power Opera House Square 55,000 Reeves, Courage
"Defeat Milo" iconDefeat Milo Dia Franco Street "Sumptuous Magla Feast" iconSumptuous Magla Feast, 60,000 Reeves

Altabury Heights: Royal Virtues

Unlike previous towns, you won’t find too many opportunities to improve your Royal Virtues in Altabury. Also, none of those opportunities will appear until your free time starts, which occurs on 9/13.

Activity Location Royal Virtue Notes
View of Altabury Opera House Square Wisdom
Clumsy Man Opera House Square Imagination
Chipper Old Woman Dia Franco Street (Lower) Imagination Night time only
Altabury Podium Blue Sky Bridge Eloquence
Debate (Julian) Blue Sky Bridge Eloquence, Imagination Choose third answer
Activist Woman Blue Sky Bridge Tolerance Day only; Pay 250 Reeves each time
Maskless Mustari Blue Sky Bridge (Lower) Tolerance Night time only

There are a few things to do in Altabury Heights, although you will have to wait until you completed the story there before you’re able to do most of it.
