Metaphor: ReFantazio

Prologue

By
Jarrod Garripoli

Welcome to the walkthrough for Metaphor: ReFantazio, which will cover the majority of the game’s story. When you first select a New Game, you will input a name that isn’t your protagonist, then you will be able to select a difficulty. There are only four difficulties available from the beginning, which are as follows:

The prologue will get you settled into the story of the game.

  • Storyteller: For players who want to focus purely on the story. Battles pose no threat of death.
  • Easy: For players who want to breeze through battles.
  • Normal: The standard difficulty, where battles thrill and challenge.
  • Hard: For players who want intense battles.

You are not able to choose Regicide difficulty at the start, so ignore it. Also, if you pick Storyteller, then you won’t be able to change it during the course of the game. All other difficulties can be swapped between in the options, while playing. Once you pick one, the game will finally begin.

Tradia Desert

The game will begin with the protagonist riding a cart, which will be attacked. After all is said and done, you end up falling down a cliff. You will gain control in the Tradia Desert, with the game offering a quick tutorial on how to move, dash and dodge enemy attacks. Move forward, then the game will show off an enemy. Of course, this enemy is a little too much for you right now, so you’ll have to ignore it and try to avoid getting seen by it. The game will also offer up a quick tutorial about Fae’s Sight, the ability that Gallica, your fairy companion, can use in the field.

(1 of 2) You should listen to Gallica here on the enemies in the very beginning.

The best thing to do is just move towards the objective marker on your mini-map, while steering clear of any enemies. If one sees you, just run away from it. When you reach an arch-like rock formation, the game will take over here and show off your destination, the Royal Capital. Once you’re in control again, head towards the large bones in front of you, passing through them to grab the two Medicinal Herbs. From there, make your way west to eventually find the road, which will trigger a cutscene and bring you to the city.

Royal Capital, Grand Trad

Your goal is to get to the Recruitment Center, which isn’t found in this first area. Approach the shop in the northeast and you’ll meet the Igniter Merchantess, who has a character portrait, so she’ll probably be important later. There’s not much else to do here, so continue north and into the next area. Head east and approach the first building along the northern side of the screen to find the Recruitment Center. A scene will take over here and it will be your turn to finally enlist.

This question will determine your starting stats and growth rate for the protagonist.

The second question the Haughty Captain asks you is an important one, as the answer you choose will determine your starting stats, as well as the stat growth for your protagonist. Upon choosing, the next task is to name your protagonist. You’ll be back in the lobby, so feel free to talk to everyone, then get to the back of the line to join the queue. You will eventually receive the Cinder Igniter, an item that allows you to use magic. A map will also be given to you, so when you get to the map itself after a bunch of scenes, hover the cursor over the Northern Border Fort and select to go there.
