Metaphor: ReFantazio

A Brother's Mercy

By
Jarrod Garripoli

At various points during your time with your Followers in Metaphor: ReFantazio, you will be presented with a quest you have to do in order to continue the bonding. Basilio is the final Follower you should get during the game, so you have to work quickly to raise his ranks. Once you reach the end of Rank 7, you will be presented with "A Brother's Mercy" iconA Brother’s Mercy side quest.

You will be pitted against Baslio’s friend, Vinca, during this quest.

A Brother’s Mercy Location

As mentioned above, you will unlock this side quest at the end of Basilio’s Rank 7, during his bond. If you wish to max out his bond, then you are required to finish this side quest. In order to complete this quest, you simply need to defeat Vinca. You won’t have to travel anywhere, since the game automatically takes you to the location. You just have to talk to Basilio during the day to go to Vinca’s spot, but note you’ll have to wait an extra day before you will be able to do this. When you check your Followers’ list, if you see the gray fist icon next to Basilio, you’ll know things are ready (can also use this to instantly travel to his location).

Serial Killer Vinca Boss Guide

There is no dungeon associated with this quest, as you automatically go to Vinca upon speaking with Basilio, with the fight starting after a little bit of conversation. Also, Basilio will be a mandatory party member for this fight, so make sure you outfit him with good armor/weapons, should you not be using him. He will likely be in a physical-oriented Archetype, so it might be good to get some buffs/debuffs on himi. Vinca will be resistant to all of the physical damage types, but will have no elemental weaknesses or resistances. If you wish to get extra Turn Icons, then you will have to inflict one-time elemental weaknesses with skills.

(1 of 3) Vinca will mainly use physical attacks, which can hurt a lot.

Vinca has access to Earsplitting Shriek, which can inflict Daze on your whole party, so be prepared to remove this, as Daze can severely lower your hit rate. Outside of that, all that he will pretty much are physical attacks on your party. Hellbound is a single target, so that’s not too bad, but "Slam Shatter" iconSlam Shatter hits everyone, so always try to keep a heal in your back pocket. You can counter these by either raising your defense with "Shelter Formation" iconShelter Formation ("General" iconGeneral has this) or "Marakukaja" iconMarakukaja ("Commander" iconCommander starts with this skill), or lowering his hit rate. Some characters might still get hit with the latter, so you should still raise your defences.

Once you get his health to under 50%, there will be a little talking, then he wiil introduce a new move, "Frenzy" iconFrenzy. This can hit multiple times per character, so be really careful about keeping up the above buffs/debuffs to lessen the hurt from it. That about is all for this boss battle with Vinca, as he’s a pretty simple one.

You will earn some loot for winning, including a "Murderer's Axe" iconMurderer’s Axe and some items. After a scene following the battle, you will also complete the quest, earning you some Tolerance Royal Virtue. This will also automatically lead to the conclusion of Basilio’s Bond, maxing it out.
