The Pugilist is one of the Adept Archetypes in Metaphor: ReFantazio. It is deadly, able to deliver hard-hitting blows to its enemies thanks to Skills that land critical hits. It is weak to Ice damage but strong against Strike damage.

The Pugilist is a part of the Brawler Lineage and investing in it will allow you to unlock its Elite form: the Martial Artist. The Pugilist Archetype is specialized thanks to its skills, focusing on stacking damage or hitting specific enemies with critical hits than generally dealing damage.

How to unlock the Pugilist Archetype¶

The Pugilist is unlocked when you level up Catherina’s bond to Rank 3. This can be done late in month 07 during the main story in the midst of a fight on your Gauntlet Runner’s journey. You can’t miss this fight.

You will also need the Brawler to be at Rank 20 and to spend 9,200 MAG to buy it.

Pugilist Skills¶

The Pugilist has 7 different Skills:

• Surprise Upset - [Hero Passive] Strong enemies are stunned more easily in overworld combat.
• Crushing Fist - Deals medium physical Strike damage to one enemy. Power proportional to caster’s remaining HP. (149 HP)
• High Voltage - [Passive] Increases critical hit rate when knocking out an enemy and beginning Squad Battle.
• Power Thrust - Deals medium physical Pierce damage to one enemy. Lowers their Defence for 3 turns. (149 HP)
• Spirit of Adversity - [Passive] Increases critical hit rate when wielder is mortally wounded.
• Strike Boost - [Passive] Increases Strike Attack by 20%.
• Dodge Master - [Passive] Enemies cannot critically hit wielder.

As these damage-based skills take HP not MP, you do want to pair the Pugilist with a Healer, or another party member who can make the most of items.

Pugilist Synthesis Skills¶

The Pugilist has access to these Synthesis Skills:

• Tiger Eruption Fist - Deals weak physical Strike damage to all enemies 2-4 times. (234 HP) [Allies needed: Warrior, Brawler, or Berserker Lineages]
• Super Energy Ray - Deals extreme physical Light damage to one enemy. Power proportional to caster’s remaining HP. (186 HP) [Allies needed: Seeker, Mage, or Healer Lineages]
