The Tears of Mercy side quest in Final Fantasy 16 can be acquired in 
The Hideaway once you reach the A Song of Hope main quest. Here you’ll find someone named Rodrigue and he wants you to stop someone from working too much. We’ll take you through the necessary steps to completion and where to find the Miteling.
Speak with !Rodrigue in The Infirmary to begin this quest.
Rodrigue begs Clive to help him convince Tarja that she needs to rest. It seems she’s been devoting all her time to a certain patient, and not even stopping to sleep.
How to Start the Tears of Mercy Side Quest in Final Fantasy 16¶
First things first, you’ll need to have completed the main story mission Evenfall, and be on A Song of Hope. When those requirements have been met, head over to 
Rodrigue who can be found in The Infirmary area of the Hideaway. Speak with him and you’ll learn that 
Tarja has been working too much and he’s worried that the Hideaway will lose her if she doesn’t stop soon.
Where to Find a Miteling¶
Once you’ve finished speaking with Rodrigue, talk to Tarja who can be found looking over the patient nearby. Here you’ll discover that the patient is someone from her past and she won’t stop until he is gone. However, she wants to give him the Tears of Mercy to ease the pain but they’re missing one ingredient, so they’ve requested you go and get it. Fast travel over to 
Lostwing which is located in 
The Holy Empire of Sanbreque Region, then follow the path along until you reach The Old Road sub-region.

Here you’ll come across multiple Mitelings that you’ll need to take down, so activate your 
Limit Break and group them up, then use your AoE Abilities, such as 
Aerial Blast and 
Heatwave. After you’ve cleared out the enemies and obtained the Spider Eye, explore the surrounding area for chests, as they could contain useful Accessories, then return to the Hideaway. Give the items to Rodrigue to bring the quest to a close and you’ll be rewarded with 
Magicked Ash x40 and 
Sharp Fang x20.
