Titan Boss Phase 3 - Into the Darkness Quest in FF16

By
Jarrod Garripoli

There are three major battles with the "Titan" iconTitan "Eikon" iconEikon in Final Fantasy XVI, with each taking place across three distinctive fights. The Phase 1 Fight was Eikon to Eikon, while the Phase 2 Fight was a larger than life spectacle. The fight with this version will be a little different, as you’re falling the entire time, but you will still have full control over "Ifrit" iconIfrit here. Once you bring down Titan here, you will finally be rid of him, once and for all. Read on for all the tips and full moveset for this boss battle.

The third battle will take place as you’re falling down a large shaft.

How to Beat Titan Phase 3 (Into the Darkness) in Final Fantasy 16

Compared to the previous two encounters with Titan, the third bout is definitely the easiest of the three. You won’t be on solid ground in this battle, but have full use of all other functions. Your evade button is going to be your best friend here, since that will be a great way to move around in the battle, although Titan does tend to stay close enough after you dodge one of his attacks.

All Titan Phase 3 Attacks in Final Fantasy XVI

The third battle with Titan isn’t as extravagant as the first two fights, as evidenced by the lack of moves listed below.

Double Handle Smash

Titan will likely be using this as his first attack, as soon as you gain control. He will interlock his hands together, bring his arm over his head, then try to bring them down as an attack. As long as you realize he’s going off as soon as the battle begins, you should be ready for it, since the attack isn’t all too difficult to dodge.

(1 of 3) His melee attacks in this last round are a little on the slower side.

Overhead Fist Smash

Titan will bring one of his arms back, then attempt to punch you with his fist. Again, this is easy enough to avoid, since there’s a good wind-up to it, so you should see it coming.

Rock Fling

Titan will fall back from melee range and place his hand on one of the walls, then just break off some pieces of the wall, sending rocks in your direction. You will usually have two or three rocks being sent your way, but there’s usually a big enough gap in between them that you don’t have to worry about dodging into another, while evading the other one.

Stone’s Throw

Titan doesn’t seem to do this attack until after you stagger him for the first time. If you recall this move from the previous two rounds, then it’s pretty much the same here. He will chuck a large boulder at you, which is pretty much the size of the area you’re in, so you can only avoid it by either dodging through it, or using Brimstone to negate the damage.

Earthshaker

Another move that doesn’t seem to appear until after the first stagger. Titan will start on one wall, then quickly move to the other side and cause a bunch of crystals to sprout out of that second wall. You should never get hit by this at all, as you can just move towards the opposing wall to avoid all of it.

(1 of 4) You’ll need a precise timing to evade through Stone’s Throw.

Spinning Charge

The third new move that Titan will perform after the first stagger is a unnamed one. He will run along one of the walls, then start spinning around and charge straight at you. So, if you start seeing him run along the walls, then be ready to dodge this maneuver.

Strategy for the Titan Phase 3 Boss in FFXVI

This is probably the easiest of the three battles against Titan, simply because there’s not a lot of moves to deal with here. The melee attacks usually have some wind-up to them, so they are slow enough that avoiding them isn’t a problem at all, even if you happen to dodge early. Of course, with the “arena” being as small as it is, though, you might run into some problems if you do evade too quickly. It seems like you can be a little more aggressive in this third battle, though, especially during the first portion, as other than the Rock Fling, his other attacks are all melee.

Once you stagger him for the first time, he will add three new attacks to his arsenal. Earthshaker shouldn’t be an issue, as you can just move to the other side to completely negate it altogether. Stone’s Throw will require you to either time your dodge correctly, for a "Precision Dodge" iconPrecision Dodge, or use Brimstone to avoid the damage. Lastly, the Spinning Charge isn’t very difficult to get away from unscathed, as you will know it’s coming, should you see him running along the wall.

(1 of 2) A cutscene will take over during the final moments of the battle.

A cutscene will take over during the final moments of the battle. (left), Be ready for all three types of Cinematic quick time events. (right)

Keep attacking him when you are able to, then once you get him to the last 10-15% of his health, a cutscene will take over from there. There will be Cinematic Evasions, Strikes, and Clashes for the rest of this cutscene, bringing the battle to an end.

Watch the multiple cutscenes following your epic struggle with Titan, then you’ll be able to head back to "The Hideaway" iconThe Hideaway and start the Out of the Shadow main quest.
