How to Redeem Preorder DLC in Final Fantasy XVI

By
Nathan Garvin

Games being vivisected and sold piecemeal is just a matter of course in the gaming industry these days, and Final Fantasy XVI is no exception. Depending on what version of the game you bought, when you bought it, and from which retailer, you may be entitled to various DLC. This page will cover all the DLC available for consumers who preordered the game or purchased the Collector’s Edition.

Depending on what version of the game you bought and when you bought it, you may be able to redeem some DLC for Final Fantasy XVI, including progression-boosting accessories and new weapons.

How to Redeem Preorder DLC in FF16

If you’ve preordered Final Fantasy XVI from any retailer, you’re entitled to the following preorder DLC:

DLC Effect
Scholar’s Spectacles Increases amount of EXP earned by 10%.
"Cait Sith Charm" iconCait Sith Charm Increases Gil earned by 25%.
Braveheart 130 Attack, 130 Stagger

Either the retailer you purchased the game from will send you the codes for you to redeem on PSN, or you’ll find a code sheet in the game box itself. To redeem codes on PSN, go to the PlayStation Store, select the “More” tab (three horizontal dots), then pick the “Redeem Code” option and enter your 12-character code. If you purchased the game digitally directly off PSN, these items will be included with your purchase, and you don’t need to fuss over them at all.

The !Blood Sword may not be stronger than the Braveheart and it doesn’t have the iconic leeching ability, but it does look fancy!

In addition if you bought the Collector’s Edition of the game you’ll get the following:

DLC Effect
"Blood Sword" iconBlood Sword

Once you’ve redeemed the DLC via PSN, you’ll need to advance the main questline until you reach the seventh-main quest (about 2-3 hours into the game, if you’re watching the cutscenes), A Chance Encounter. As soon as you’re in control of Clive at the start of this quest, enter your menu by pressing the DualSense-ButtonOptions button, navigate to the “System” tab, then to the “Redeemable Items” tab, where you should find all the DLC you’re entitled to listed. Just click on each one and it’ll be added to your inventory. Be sure to actually equip them in the “Gear & Eikons” tab - they won’t do you much good just sitting around in your inventory!

Is the Preorder DLC Useful in FF16?

Leveling in Final Fantasy XVI renders surprisingly few advantages, and if you just go about completing main quests, side quests and hunts you should end up at or very near the level 50 cap by the end of your first playthrough. That being the case, there’s very little to fuss over EXP gains, even if you can be bothered to do some grinding, especially considering that equipping these accessories will deprive you of other, better accessories. You can also buy EXP and "Gil" iconGil boosting accessories after sufficiently advancing the story. Gil gains are a little tighter, but again, completing main quests, side quests and hunts will make up most of your Gil gains, and selling items dropped by enemies will account for most of the rest. As for the Braveheart, its stats are roughly on par with a "Bastard Sword" iconBastard Sword, a weapon you’ll be able to craft late in Chapter 1 - it’ll be obsolete a few hours into the game.

All in all these preorder accessories and weapons offer little lasting value. If you want to take a gander at the weapons, equipment and accessories that Final Fantasy XVI has to offer and how it compares to the preorder DLC, check out the following pages:
