How to Unlock the Packing Heat Trophy in FF16

By
Jarrod Garripoli

There are a number of combat-related trophies in Final Fantasy XVI, and Packing Heat is one of them. For this trophy, you will need to perform two Heatwave Counters in a single battle. "Heatwave" iconHeatwave is an extremely useful ability, especially for staggering enemies, in the early to mid-game. Don’t forget that you won’t be able to unlock this trophy in the Hall of Virtue, which is the training area you can access from the "Arete Stone" iconArete Stone at "The Hideaway" iconThe Hideaway.

How to Earn the Packing Heat Trophy in Final Fantasy XVI

Heatwave is a maneuver that you will unlock early in your adventure, and it is considered to be an extremely powerful ability, when you utilize it correctly. You will gain access to this ability upon starting A Chance Encounter, which is directly after the prologue. It costs 120 AP, though, but you might have enough from the prologue to get it right away. Either way, Heatwave usually only shoots out one shockwave upon using it, which is increased to two, should you upgrade it. However, there’s a special perk to this ability, which is when you use it right when an enemy’s projectile is about to connect with Clive.

Do this and the attack will dispel the projectile, and the amount of shockwaves you shoot will double; this is called a Heatwave Counter. The counter is a great maneuver to do on any enemy/boss with a projectile attack. To get this trophy, you will need to perform two Heatwave Counters in a single fight. Naturally, a normal enemy probably wouldn’t survive one of these, but any boss or miniboss should be more than enough. If you purchase Heatwave as soon as you’re able to, you could equip it and actually use it against the Shiva’s Dominant boss. She has a triple projectile attack, as well as a single shot one.

If you are having trouble timing the counter, wait until you unlock Hunts, with one of the first ones being the Ahriman hunt. This creature will shoot two slow-moving orbs at you, which are prime targets for the counter. The Aruna hunt is another great opportunity, as the flight path for its projectile is shown to you, plus it will perform that maneuver quite often. There’s also a number of "Aevises" iconAevises in the wild, which will use fireballs throughout the encounters. If you are looking for normal enemies, then the "Vampire Thorns" iconVampire Thorns style of enemies have a ranged attack. Should you look for these, there are some around the "Martha's Rest" iconMartha’s Rest area. The only problem with using regular enemies is if you have other NPCs with you, as you can’t control them and they will defeat them. If you have just "Torgal" iconTorgal, then you can spam the Heal command, though.

However you do it, just perform two Heatwave Counters in a single battle to unlock the trophy.
