How to Start the Skin Trade Side Quest in Final Fantasy 16¶
As mentioned above, to start this quest you need to first reach the Cloak and Dagger main quest. You can check your progress towards this on our List of All Main Quests in Final Fantasy XVI page. This quest will bring you to the village of Tabor in Eastern Dhalmekia, which is located in the southeastern part of the map. You’ll find Karel the Tanner in the central part of the village, as shown in the screenshot below.

Where to Find a Dread Aevis Near Tabor in Eastern Dhalmekia¶
Once you’ve acquired the Skin Trade quest, you’ll need to search for a Dread Aevis creature. If this is your first time in Tabor, you’re likely to meet a mysterious character named Cyril, a Knight of the Undying, during a cutscene as you attempt to leave the village. He’ll give you the
Phoenix Down seal which will allow you to access new areas and make yourself known to his order from here on.
After the scene with Cyril, make your way southeast out of the village, following the road until you reach the first point where it turns southwest. This road is known as The Gilded Path, and you need to follow it as it bends northwest, into The Fields of Corava. There are a few groups of hostile creatures and bandits along the way, but nothing you can’t handle.
How to Kill a Dread Aevis¶
Once you’re in the fields you need to make your way southwest until you approach the area just north of where The Fields of Corava are noted on the map. You can see this point in the screenshot below, and it’s where you’ll find a Dead Aevis. Just one of these enemies shouldn’t be too difficult to handle, especially if you use all six of your available Eikon abilities to overwhelm it into a stagger. You can then execute some well-timed combos with
Torgal to finish the beast off before it recovers.
If the Aevis does happen to emerge from the stagger, you’ll need to watch out for its charged attacks which can knock you back. It’s also more agile than you might expect, capable of dodging your regular attacks with ease. It doesn’t stand much of a chance against any of your Eikon abilities though, so you shouldn’t have any trouble with this. You’ll get an Aevis Skin and a Dragon Talon from the enemy after defeating it.

Return to Karel the Tanner in Tabor¶
Once you’ve killed the Dread Aevis, you can return to Karel in Tabor either by taking the same route back, or if you activated the Obelisk in Tabor you can use that to fast travel there. Karel will be in the same place you found him initially, and you’ll receive 1035 Level XP, 25 Renown, a
Bloody Hide, and a
Meteorite as rewards for your trouble.
Other Side Quests in The Dhalmekian Republic¶
There are plenty more side quests available in The Dhalmekian Republic region, and it’s a good idea to complete them before you progress with the main story to ensure that you don’t become locked out of them. We’ve listed a few that you might have missed in the table below.
