Inspector Ryder¶
Return to the Operations floor of the Nexus and finally talk to the Turian woman - Mariette - who can be found east of Kandros. She’ll quickly see your rank and ask you to misuse it by trying to exonerate her husband, who she claims was falsely accused of murder.
Agree to help her and head north across Operations to find Nilken, safely walked away where he presumably belongs. Or doesn’t belong? Either way, talk to the prison guard, who will refer you to Nilken, who in turn tells you his side of the story. Afterwards, head back south to Kandros to get the story from the perspective of the law, as it were, then east and listen to the logged recording of the event. As Nilken suggested, it doesn’t paint him in a good light.
Next, make your way up to Addison’s Office, where you’ll find Cassidy Shaw, a witness to the supposed murder. Her testimony helps Nilken even less than the audio recording did, but it does expose a rather unforgivable hole in the physical evidence. Finally, talk to Tann to gain his permission to return to Eos and start poking around for the body of security chief Reynolds… not sure why you suddenly need Tann’s permission, but he’s assent to your request as long as you keep it quiet.
Reynolds Remains¶
Return to Eos and fast travel to Site 1, then make your way south to Site 2. While the path isn’t exactly the easiest to drive through, you’ll want to take the Nomad, as the length of exposure is simply too much for your hardsuit. From Site 2 head south into the desert towards the spot indicated on the map, and when you arrive, scan the armor on the ground and listen to SAM chatter. Once done, make your way southeast to find another piece of evidence, then hop in the Nomad and drive a fair distance to the east to find a third, this one being buried in the sand, so keep your scanner pointed low and look for the outline.
The last bit of evidence provided some good news for Nilken, but there’s more clues to find. Drive the Nomad southeast to the next search zone and scan another scrap of Reynolds’ remains to surmise that his corpse was likely scavenged by local wildlife. Continue southeast into a cave, where you’ll find several Kaerkyns. Crush the bugs, exploit some Cadmium ore veins, then scan some more remains on a shelf along the southeastern edge of the cave, where you’ll identify Reynolds’ omni-tool. Investigate the omni-tool and SAM will interpret the data from it before playing a new audio recording… which if anything complicates the investigation even more.
Remnant Ruins and Mining Zones¶
Before you return to the Nexus, there’s a bit more to do nearby… if you like loot, that is. North of the cave you just explored, behind a rock formation, you’ll find some Remnant ruins. Put down the Remnant here, if there are any, then loot the nearby rocks to find an Element Zero node and a Lithium node. Also, speaking of minerals, there’s a Mining Zone to the south, centered just west of the cave you explored earlier.
Action or Intent¶
Head back to the Operations area of the Nexus and confront Nilken, who is technically innocent thanks to his own incompetent aim. Unfortunately for him, you still have to discuss things with Tann, who naturally leaves the ultimate decision up to you. After he’s done laying the situation out, make your choice: keep the bogus murder conviction and exile Nilken, or overturn it and let somebody who wanted to, attempted to, and in fact thought he murdered his superior walk free. How about they just change the charge to attempted murder, mutiny and insubordination and exile him anyways? No? Oh well. Whatever your choice, this quest will end, earning you a nice chunk of XP.
