As you venture deeper into Japan during your adventure in Assassin’s Creed Shadows, you’ll come across more Kofun, some of which are rather simple to complete, some that may have you scratching your head in how you even get into it in the first place. The Azuchi Hyotanyama Kofun belongs in the latter, and you’ll find it in the Omi region, so keep reading to learn how you get inside and what rewards you can expect.

The Azuchi Hyotanyama Kofun can be found in the Omi region of Assassin’s Creed Shadows.

How to Enter the Azuchi Hyotanyama Kofun

Once you’re able to freely explore the entirety of Japan after unlocking character swapping, you’ll want to make your way to the Omi region that is situated to the northeast of Izumi Settsu, the starting region. You’re looking to head to the southeast side of the region, so if you’ve yet to travel there yet, you can head to the Kakurega in Iga and go north.

If you have explored some of the region though, you will have found one of the two Viewpoints in Azuchi, the major settlement in the southeast. Head to one of these, open your map, and look to the forest to the east and head in that direction (check the screenshots below for a precise location) of the Suzuka Foothills. Eventually, you’ll reach the area of the Kofun at the top of some stairs, make sure you’re controlling Yasuke and get ready to solve this challenge.

You’ll find the Kofun in the southeast part of the Omi region, east of Azuchi.

Exploring the Azuchi Hyotanyama Kofun

As mentioned above, you must be controlling Yasuke to clear this Kofun (if you’re ever looking for clarification on who to use for Kofun, check the rewards, it will always be for the character the Kofun is intended for) and as soon as you head down the stairs, you’ll spot a lone Outlaw Brute trying to find a way through the door. You can either keep your distance and use your Bow or Teppo to deal with him, or sneak up behind him and Assassinate him. Either way, look at the left wall as you came down here to find an explosive jar, shoot it and you’ll reveal a chest you can loot for some gear.

The door at the very bottom is locked here, so there’s only one way you’ll get inside. Go back to the top of the stairs and sprint at the door to have Yasuke barge it down. This is an often overlooked ability of Yasuke and it’s the only way you’ll find a way into this Kofun as it is otherwise locked with no key. Continue down the path from here and you’ll reach an intersection, a gap in front of you or a slope to your right.

(1 of 2) Run into the door to barge it down.

Run into the door to barge it down. (left), Use a Bow or Teppo to deal with the Outlaws across the gap. (right)

Before you do anything, take out your ranged weapon and snipe the two Outlaws that can be found across the gap, aiming for headshots for maximum damage. With them out of the way, take the slope to your right and slide down. At the end of the path, you’ll need to drop down, move the wooden box closer to the ledge on the other side, and then use it to jump across.

This will lead to another room with two movable wooden boxes and a chest up on the western wall. Move one of these boxes over toward it and leap across to claim it, then move it closer to the ledge on the southern side and leap across to climb out of the room. This will lead to the room where the two Outlaws were situated, so if you didn’t kill them earlier, expect to fight them now.

Regardless, continue following the path and you’ll reach another gap with two explosive jars on the ledge you’re currently standing on. Pick one of these up, drop down below, and then carefully throw it up on to the other ledge. If you’re struggling to do this, you can move the two wooden boxes to form a line and then leap across them with it in your hand, but it’s not required.

(1 of 3) You will need to move the wooden box to reach the ledge with the chest.

Once you have it up there, drop it on the ledge for now (not down into the room) and detonate the one to your right to reach another chest. You now need to move the wooden boxes here to form a path across the gap, then pick up the explosive jar and leap across the gap to place in front of the rubble, detonating it when you’re ready.

This will lead you to the final room with the Legendary Chest, however, there’s the little matter of three Outlaws to deal with first. Two of these should be no problem, but one of them comes clad in armor and can be tough if you’re underlevel. Additionally, the room you’re fighting in isn’t the largest, so quickly dispatch the other two first so you can focus on the tougher enemy.

(1 of 2) The armored Outlaw can be tough if you’re lower level.

Once they finally fall, you can claim the Legendary Chest to complete the Kofun, you’ll obtain the Heartspiller Legendary Bow and the Posture Shot with Charged Arrow Engraving, both of these are powerful ranged options for Yasuke.
