Meet Mitsuhide

Once you’ve finally completed the task given to you by Ise Sadaoki in Belly of the Beast, you’re ready to complete the assassination of Oda Nobunaga, speaking to Mitsuhide will get the ball rolling once you’re ready. To find Mitsuhide, you’ll need to head just southwest of Toji Temple, across a bridge, to find where he and his men are stationed (this is the start of the Shoryuji sub-region).

Once you speak with him, he’ll go over the specifics of the plan you’re about to enact, asking you to go in ahead of the main force to deal with Oda Nobunaga, and he and his men will attack the gates after, causing the confusion needed to get out of there. Once you’re ready, choose “Let’s go.” To be locked into several main quests in a row.

(1 of 2) You’ll find Mitushide just southwest of Kyoto.

Reaching Oda Nobunaga

Once you regain control, you’ll find yourself on a rooftop at Honnoji Temple, where Oda Nobunaga is currently residing. Your goal here is to reach and then assassinate him, hopefully with as little noise as possible. Fortunately, you’ll enter under the guise of night, so that should aid you in your infiltration.

Start by activating Eagle Eye and tagging the enemies in your surrounding area and you’ll spot a couple of guards patrolling around the immediate courtyard. If you wait a moment, one of them will walk toward the building you’re currently on, if you have Double Assassinate, this is the perfect time to make use of it (alternatively, wait for one to turn away and assassinate them one at a time). There’s one more guard near the next building to the north that you’ll need to deal with, this is easier if you’ve dealt with the others first.

At this point, head into the northern building here, assassinate the guard here through the Shoji Door, and claim some loot from a chest. Climb to the roof of this building now and use Eagle Eye to tag the next set of enemies to the north. Drop down, climb to the wall, and then wait until it’s clear and assassinate the soldier standing near the well, stashing his body in there to prevent yourself getting discovered.

(1 of 5) You can assassinate both of these guards at the start with Double Assassinate.

Just ahead of you is a hay bale, sneak into there and you can then assassinate them both, then wait for one final patrolling soldier to head back around to this part of the temple and assassinate him. Climb over the next wall to the north now to find a relatively empty courtyard that you can pass through to the next wall. The large building at the back here is where Oda Nobunaga is, but going through the front door is out of the question. Instead, come from the right side and go prone to find a crawlspace under the stairs, at the end of this space is a hatch you can open which will lead you directly to Oda Nobunaga.

Oda Nobunaga Boss Battle

The battle against Nobunaga will begin immediately following the scene, and you won’t have to completely deplete his health to win it (but near enough). He often opens the battle by running toward you and doing a Flurry Attack against you, be sure to deflect each of the blows and you’ll open him for a counter attack of your own, stick to Light Attacks here to get more in.

After you deplete a quarter of his health, he’ll grab you and throw you on the ground as the flames begin to gather in the temple. If you have enough Adrenaline at this point, opening this phase with a Tidal Wave is very useful as it will buy you an opening for a combo and hopefully bring Oda Nobunaga to below half health, just be ready for him to retaliate with an unstoppable kick.

(1 of 4) Oda Nobunaga often starts the battle with a Flurry attack.

He’ll stick to these unstoppable attacks for the remainder of the battle, especially with his basic Katana combo, so get ready to dodge rather than block at all times to create the openings you need. You’ll also need to be prepared to dodge away from the burning debris, if it hits you, will be inflicted with Burning.

Once you finally defeat Oda Nobunaga, a series of scenes will take place as the Temple of the Horseman comes to an end and Lightning and Thunder will begin immediately.
