Beating them will take you one step closer to defeating Ise Sadaoki, one of the game’s major villains. Here’s what you need to know about the Twisted Tree targets and how to handle them in Assassin’s Creed Shadows. Play your cards right and you can keep your blade from slaughtering two of the seven targets.

Starting Twisted Tree¶
To start the quest, you’ll need to meet Ujimasa as a part of the Inside Help quest under Ise Sadaoki’s portrait in the Shinbakufu section on the objective board. Ujimasa can be found in a temple to the southwest of the Hills of Meeting. Once you meet him at Kiyomizudera Temple, he will ask you to help an umbrella merchant with some rowdy samurai, triggering The Twisted Tree quest. You need to clear out the Twisted Tree clan to win his support. This task consists of seven targets, two of which can be spared. Return to him after defeating the clan to get 1000 XP and the Yamazaki Castle Gate Key, which grants access beyond the castle’s inner gate to reach Ise Sadaoki.
(1 of 4) Head west from this palace to find the umbrella merchant.
Takahashi Taro¶
Location | Asukai Clan Domain, Kyoto, Yamashiro |
---|---|
Rewards | 2000 XP, 2 Mastery Points, Level 14 Burden of Legacy Rare Katana, Critical Damage with Melee Weapon Engraving |
The Help Needed quest with the umbrella merchant is the first step in finding Takahashi Taro. You can fast travel to Nijo Tenshu to get to the Nijo Palace quickly. Head west from the palace and use your observe skill (LT/L2 on a controller) to find a merchant near an umbrella cart. He will introduce himself as Yamana Kihei and point you toward the family guard to find Takahashi.
He will also mention Saburo, another member you’ll need to take down. Once you’re done with the conversation, pick up the Caregiver Letter item from the ground near the umbrella cart. It’s addressed to the leader of the Twisted Tree, encouraging him to send his son and daughter away from Kyoto.
Takahashi Taro resides in Western Kyoto. Either use a scout to find his location or head to the Asukai Clan Domain directly. It’s to the north of the Furo of Kyoto and west from the Imperial Palace. You’ll find Taro with a katana in a green attire here. Defeating him will give you a Letter from Taro’s body about Goro’s habit of visiting burnt buildings.
(1 of 2) Saburo can be found near the Asukai Clan Domain too.Saburo wears armor and brandishes a powerful weapon.

Takahashi Saburo¶
Location | Asukai Clan Domain, Kyoto, Yamashiro |
---|---|
Rewards | 2000 XP, 2 Mastery Points, Level 14 Saburo’s Deference Rare Katana, Tools on Kill Engraving |
Roam around the Asukai Clan Domain and you’ll run into Saburo, another assassination target. While he is usually found to the southwest of the Asukai Clan Domain, he joined my fight to defend Taro. While his armor makes him a tough foe, his massive bodyguard is the real threat you need to account for. Defeating Saburo turns the bodyguard neutral and you’ll find a Letter from Saburo’s body here about his resentment toward his strong ally.
Takahashi Jiro¶
Location | Honnoji Temple, Kyoto, Yamashiro |
---|---|
Rewards | 2000 XP, 2 Mastery Points, Level 15 Final Word of the Guardian Rare Teppo, Armor Damage on Multiple Enemies Engraving |
Finding Jiro involves two quests, Guard Assignments and Family Drama. The first one tasks you with confronting the family guard. He can be found to the east of the Honnoji Temple near a sake crate cart. As for Family Drama, you need to listen in on the guards at the entrance of the Imperial Palace in Kyoto. The conversation will describe an outburst by Shiro against a fan merchant. They will also mention that Jiro changed his patrol route. An Ashigaru swordsman will mention they forgot a note with the route inside the Furo of Kyoto. This location is situated to the north of the Kano Painting School. Head here and you will obtain the New Patrol Route Note indicating a southern district that Jiro will patrol.
Instead of doing these quests, you can directly head south from Honnoji Temple and use your observe ability to find Takahashi Jiro. You’ll spot him to the northeast of the Southern Kyoto Kakurega. An adept Twisted Tree swordsman, Jiro will fall quickly if you land a stealth attack on him. Beat him to discover a Letter from Jiro’s Body that refers to the Caregiver Letter he threw away.
Takahashi Shiro¶
Location | Nijo Palace, Kyoto, Yamashiro |
---|---|
Rewards | 2000 XP, 2 Mastery Points, Level 15 Untamable One Rare Katana, Armor Piercing on Consecutive Kills Engraving |
Once you clear the Family Drama quest and learn about Shido’s outburst, you can head to a broken fan cart along Nijo Palace’s moat in central Kyoto to discover clues for the Dropped Intel quest. It’s very close to the Nijo Tenshu fast travel point. You’ll find the Outburst Area Note here which mentions that Shido has been locked up due to his erratic behavior.
Sneak into the Nijo Palace and use your observe ability to spot Shiro to the southeast of this area. Avoid his deadly club attacks and use quick attacks to drain him out. Defeat him and you’ll obtain a Letter from Shiro’s body. It implies that Goro and Ichi-Hime are about to abandon the Twisted Tree and points to Taro’s location in northwest Tokyo.
You can choose to kill or spare this target.
Takahashi Ichi-Hime¶
Location | Umenomiya Taisha Shrine, Kyoto, Yamashiro |
---|---|
Rewards | 2000 XP, 2 Mastery Points, Level 15 Daydreamer’s Grip Rare Bow |
You’ll find Takahashi Ichi-Hime at the Umenomiya Taisha Shrine in the western part of Kyoto. Head to the southwest of the Kano Painting School or northeast of the Tenryuji Temple to find her. You can either choose to assassinate Ichi-Hime or spare her by attacking Inoshichi directly. Skipping her assassination will net you the same Twisted Tree rewards and is quicker.
Goro can also be spared.
Takahashi Goro¶
Location | Shokokuji Temple, Kyoto, Yamashiro |
---|---|
Rewards | 2000 XP, 2 Mastery Points, Level 17 Raijin’s Refusal Rare Teppo, Damage after Headshot Engraving |
Just like his sister, you can either head northwest of the Shokokuji Temple and assassinate Goro or defeat his father directly. We opted for the latter. While you can go to the temple and spare Goro, you’ll get the same rewards after defeating his father without meeting him.
(1 of 3) The patriarch is the final threat.
Takahashi Inoishichi¶
Location | Honnoji Temple, Kyoto, Yamashiro |
---|---|
Rewards | 2000 XP, 2 Mastery Points, Level 15 Kitsune’s Trickery Legendary Trinket for Yasuke, Health for Samurai Mastery Engraving, Adrenaline on Afflicted Enemies Engraving |
The final boss of the Twisted Tree, Inoshichi will be flanked by servants and guards. You’ll find him to the west of the Honnoji Temple on the southern side of Kyoto. Explore the area and use your observe ability to find him inside one of the buildings. Defeating him will end the Twisted Tree quest if you have slain Taro, Saburo, Jiro, and Shido. We recommend taking down the family members loyal to the patriarch separately and dealing with Inoishichi at the end. Defeating these five clan members will help you wrap up the Twisted Tree quest in Assassin’s Creed Shadows and return to Ujimasa.
