After gathering the maggots for Matsu to help with Yoshiharu’s granddaughter’s injuries, you learn that she wasn’t really hurt and was just faking it for concern for her grandfather. He wishes to help out with Matsu in the kitchen, commenting that it might be a little dark in the cabin, suggesting some lanterns that he had in his old place. This page will detail where to find the lanterns, as well as how to obtain them.
Yoshiharu suggests getting some lanterns for Matsu’s cabin.
Shadows and Light - Lanterns Locations¶
You won’t have to go too far to procure the lanterns, as they are found in Kashiwara Village. This is a place you should have likely already discovered, especially if you wish to get all of the allies, since Ibuki’s first quest is located in the village. If you haven’t found it, for some strange reason, it’s a little northwest of the cabin. All three of the lanterns are found in Kashiwara Manor, a restricted area that will be full of enemies. Depending on how you are with stealth, this could be a good time to switch over to Yasuke to clear out the enemy camp.
Kashiwara Manor isn’t particularly big and there are three buildings in the camp, with a lantern inside each of those buildings. If you head around to the western side, you will notice a big gap in the fencing that’ll allow you to sneak into the camp. Should you be using Naoe, make sure you tag all of the enemies with your Eagle Vision first, so you can pinpoint where they are and how they move. There is a pile of hay right inside the back entrance here, too, so it makes a great hiding spot. For us, there was a heavy-tier enemy that patrolled near the hay and he went behind the building, making him a great first target.
(1 of 4) Kashiwara Manor in the same named village is where you’ll find all three lanterns.
Of course, that only works if you’ve upgraded Naoe enough for bigger assassinations, since this brute might have four or more health segments. If you can take him out, though, that opens up the area for a much easier approach. Don’t forget that your kunai are also powerful, so they help you keep a distance from enemies and still kill them. Once you’ve cleared the enemy camp, feel free to go around and loot the place, as well as collect the three lanterns.
Return to the cabin and speak to Yoshiharu to hand over the lanterns (dialog choice doesn’t matter, but the home one is probably better). A cutscene will play out here, bringing you to the end of this quest, as well as this chain of missions.
