A number of side quests in Assassin’s Creed: Shadows will create an Objective Board that has you hunting down multiple targets. After taking out The Naginata, you can speak to Shotei during the follow-up quest, called Requiem for Rokkaku. During this, he will hand over some information on some former students of his, called The Godai Shinobi. This page will detail where to find all of the Godai Shinobi, as well as tips for defeating each of them.
Shotei wants you to hunt down five former students of his.
The Godai Shinobi Location¶
As mentioned above, you will automatically get this after doing the follow-up side quest, Requiem for Rokkaku. This is nothing more than a glorified cutscene that is unlocked after finishing up The Naginata line of main story quests. Upon speaking to Shotei during Requiem for Rokkaku, you will unlock The Godai Shinobi quest, as well as the targets on the Objective Board. There are five targets to hunt down and you pretty much have leads on four of them. The only one that is not known is the Godai of Wind.
The Godai of Void Location¶
There are some short quests related to the Godai of Void, but if you wish to go straight to his location, you’ll find him in the Omi region. Towards the northeastern corner of the region is the Goshiki Outlands and the in-game clue mentions the eastern part of that sub-region. You will want to search for the Daikichiji Temple, as he is close to there. Once you arrive, just follow the stairs/trail until you reach some elderly lady crying about someone. Not too much further beyond her will be a cave and if you use Observe, you’ll see a blue dot inside said cave.
(1 of 3) The Godai of Void is in Omi, in the eastern part of Goshiki Outlands.
This is the Godai of Void and it looks like you’ll be able to sneak up on him slightly. However, go inside the cave and the Godai of Void will get the jump on you, throwing you into a direct battle with him. He will use the tanto, like most of the other shinobi in this quest. One thing you might want to do is lure him away from the cave, to a more open arena for the fight. Once you finish him off, head on to the rest of them, should you have any left.
The Godai of Fire Location¶
The Godai of Fire has a small quest associated with him, which can or cannot be done prior to hunting him down. The small quest is called Pyrophobia, which asks you to help a terrified beggar. Head to the town of Sakamoto, specifically the kakurega there, and go north of it to find a river. If you follow this river to the west and then slightly northwest, you should come to the farmhouse in question. Upon getting close enough, you see that the owner of the farmhouse is being harassed by two thugs. Kill both, then talk to the man to learn some info on the Godai of Fire.
You will be able to find the Godai of Fire northwest of Sakamoto. Specifically, the game mentions he is in northwestern Mount Hiei, a sub-region found there. If you look around while exploring, you will undoubtedly notice some smoke coming from a tower on top of a hill. This is the burning pagoda that is mentioned as a clue for finding him. Note that this burning pagoda will have a Viewpoint on top of it, so if you have the icon unlocked on your map, you can use that as a waypoint to guide you to its location.
When you arrive at the burning pagoda, you’ll notice that no one’s there. The Godai of Fire is nearby, but he’s found a little to the north of the pagoda itself. You’ll see him at a little makeshift camp, so if you can sneak behind him, then that should help take out a huge chunk of his life with an assassination. For direct combat, the Godai of Fire uses some tanto to fight, so he can throw one at you, as well as do a few normal attacks that are blockable/parryable. He does have the unblockable kick to push you away, if you stay aggressive, but overall, this enemy is quite easy to defeat.
The Godai of Earth Location¶
To find the Godai of Earth, you will be going to the Iga region, which is just south of Omi and on the eastern side of the map. The in-game clues mention he’s been seen in central Hijiyama and northeast of Kuroda Village. The closest spot you probably already have unlocked is the kakurega in Aekuni Village, which is in the Ichinomiya sub-region. Once you go there, you’ll be heading southwest of the kakurega, and pretty much right around the Hijiyama name on the map.
(1 of 3) The Godai of Earth is northeast of Kuroda Village in central Hijiyama, in Iga.
Similarly to the Godai of Fire, you can sneak up on him via the rocks behind him, which should allow you to get an assassination attempt on him. Without Guaranteed Assassinations enabled, though, you will likely not be able to kill him in one attempt, leading to direct combat. He uses tanto for weapons and will have pretty much the same moveset as the Godai of Fire. Just be careful of the dagger throw, as well as the slightly weird movements for his normal attacks. There are also the unblockable kick attacks, so dodge those when you see the red glint.
The Godai of Water Location¶
The Godai of Water is probably the easiest one to find, simply because she’s not too far from Sakamoto in the Omi region. Fast travel to the town and head north from there, following the coastline. As you eventually cross a small, wooden bridge, you will reach a swampy-like area. Keep an eye out for a building to your east, as that will be Mangetsuji Temple, which is one of the clues given for the location. Thankfully, you won’t have to look too far from that building, as the Godai of Water will be sitting on a rock nearby.
This makes it easy to sneak up on her for an assassination, although you likely aren’t going to kill her outright with it, leading to a direct fight. She will be using two tanto as her weapon choice, so you should have good enough practice on how to handle them at this point. Just be careful about the unblockable kick maneuver, and block any normal strikes to make her vulnerable. Defeat her and that will be one of the shinobi down.
(1 of 3) The Godai of Water is north of Sakamoto, along the coast.
The Godai of Wind Location¶
The Godai of Wind location is a bit of a mystery, as the game doesn’t seem to give any clues as to her spot. If you do the Godai Shinobi after The Naginata, the board only seems to say to speak with Shotei on this elusive target. Depending on other things you may have done, the Godai of Wind’s hiding place may be indirectly discovered. There is a Legendary Chest in the same spot as the shinobi, which is why you might find it prior to starting this quest. To be specific, this target is found at Shimagahara Valley, which is in the Otogi Pass sub-region of Iga.
Directly east of the Otogi Pass name on the map is the Buddhas of Shimagahara enemy camp. If you go north from there, you should arrive in Shimagahara Valley. As for pinpointing the Godai of Wind’s camp, it’s slightly off the beaten path, but there is a path leading to it. As always, if you’re lost, make sure you use Observe and look for the blue dot, indicating a quest objective. Once you find the Godai of Wind, it’s time to kill her.
It’s a little difficult to sneak up behind her, due to the size of the area, but it is possible. If you fight her straight on, the Godai of Wind will being using a kusarigama as a weapon. Since she is using a different weapon, you will need to get used to her attacks. There is an unblockable one that you will need to dodge, as well as one time where the Godai broke up a combo of our own with a counter. The rest of the attacks seem to be the blue-tinted combos, so you can block/parry those.
(1 of 4) The Godai of Wind is in Shimagahara Valley, in the Otogi Pass sub-region of Iga.
Rewards¶
For killing each target, you will receive 2,000 XP, 2 Mastery Points, and some weapon. After killing them all, return to Shotei at the village of Koga to report your results. You’ll receive the Soaring Tatsu legendary trinket, along with the Armor Piercing for Tanto Mastery engraving. Additionally, for completing the whole set, you’ll lastly receive a nice 5,000 XP.
