Finding the Makino Kurumazuka Kofun¶
This second Kofun is a lot more involving than the Old Kofun, and, although you can discover it as soon as you get access to Izumi Settsu, you’ll have to wait until after you unlock character swapping as you need to play as Yasuke for this one. This will happen after you complete the first two main assassinations and then complete the quest chain that starts with Friend of My Enemy. Before you go here, you may also want to wait until you have a ranged weapon for Yasuke, be it the Bow or the Teppo, as you’ll need to explode explosive jars. Still, you can always strike it with your Katana, just make sure you have Rations on hand (we did it this way).
The Makino Kurumazuka Kofun is located in the Yawata Plains sub-region of Izumi Settsu.
To find this Kofun, head to the north of the Yawata Plains sub-region, you’ll find the Kofun directly to the east of Takatsuki Castle, on the eastern side of the river. Once you get there, you’ll find the entrance is blocked with debris, look near the stairs outside however and you will spot a jar that you can carry when playing as Yaasuke, do so and drop it in front of the debris, than detonate it to create an entrance to the Kofun.
Exploring the Makino Kurumazuka Kofun¶
Follow the stairs down and loot the first chest for some gear, then follow the path to the south (the eastern path leads to an area that is blocked for now) to spot a large wooden box you can move by interacting with it. Do so and push it forward to gain access to the room behind it, following the path after to another large room.
Here you’ll want to pull another large wooden box located to the south toward you so you can get in the room behind it and follow the path around to some explosive jars. Pick one up and blow away the rubble to the east to return to the previous room, then climb the stairs and use another jar to blow away the rubble there to continue on. You’ll soon reach an intersection, take the left path first to reach a materials chest you can loot, then go the other way.
(1 of 2) You can move the wooden boxes here to get behind them.
You can move the wooden boxes here to get behind them. (left), Loop around and pick up an explosive jar and blast away the rubble up the stairs. (right)
The path will lead you to a pool of water, jump in and follow it to the other side and then follow the path to a larger room. Break the boxes to your right to find some explosive jars, then take one with you and throw it across the gap and detonate it to blow away the rubble. Once again, you can either go right here or crawl under a gap to the left, take the gap (the right path leads to an arrow and teppo shot refill should you need it), follow the path, and when you attempt to cross the rope, you’ll fall into the room below.
Go down the path to the east to find another large wooden box you can move, bring it back to the large room and push it up against the northern wall, allowing you to climb it and leave this area. Before you do though, don’t forget to loot the gear chest behind the large wooden box first!
Follow the stairs up and into the next room and you’ll find two large wooden boxes you can move here. Pull the one in the southern entryway out toward you so you can access the passage behind, move the other one out of the way, then move the first wooden box (that was blocking the passage way) along to the western wall so you can jump up there later.
Now enter that passageway and follow the path around to find some more wooden boxes you can pull out, this will let you access the previous room. Turn around now and grab an explosive jar and toss it up to the ledge on the western wall where some rubble is blocking the passage. Detonate this jar however you wish, then climb the wooden box you moved earlier and jump over to the passage.
All that remains now is to follow the final winding path to reach a large room housing the Legendary Chest, open it to claim the Blush of Earth Legendary Bow and the Extend Clear Mind Engraving, along with 2,000 XP.
