You first met Gennojo during the Missing Missive main story quest, in Assassin’s Creed: Shadows, which was one of the quests required to hunt down The Fool. After completing the final quest in the chain, where Gennojo showed up, you will unlock his chain of missions, starting with Sake and Swords. Doing these quests will enable you to continue pursuing the romantic relationship with him, as well as possibly recruit him as an ally.
You’ll find Gennojo in Ogura Pond, south of the Byodoin Temple.
Sake and Swords Location¶
You will Gennojo in a familiar place, once you’ve completed Lost Honor, the final quest in The Fool chain. You will see the quest marker already on your map, in the Ogura Pond sub-region of Yamashiro. It will be a south of Byodoin Temple, which was where you met Ise Sadatame. Go to the marker and you will see Gennojo with some villagers, although he seems to have had one too many drinks.
Speak to him to get a conversation started, with a dialog choice being offered pretty early. If you wish to continue your romance with Gennojo, then reply with Depends what you’re offering. After the little bit of flirting, he tells you the reason he’s stealing is because of the villagers being left with barely enough to survive. Before he can say anymore, though, two samurai will show up, initiating a fight. They aren’t anything worthy of a big write-up, since they’re pretty generic fodder. Of course, Gennojo will be fighting alongside you, so he can be a distraction for the one.

After bringing down both of the samurai, speak with Gennojo again for another scene. There’s another dialog choice here, so if you want to continue the romance angle, pick Show me, thief. He will now run off and tells you to meet him in Kyoto, by the tax collector’s house, which is the stage for the next quest, Honor Among Thieves.
