After you finish the short prologue in Assassin’s Creed Shadows, you’ll gain access to the Izumi Settsu region while playing as Naoe. This will allow you to freely explore the region and undertake some of the many activities there. One such activity are the Kofun, hidden vaults that house a legendary chest at the end of them that you’ll want to seek out and clear as soon as possible. Keep reading to learn how to complete the two available Kofun in the Izumi Settsu region.

Finding the Old Kofun¶

This is the first, and only, Kofun you can complete during your initial romp through the Izumi Settsu region as Naoe. This first Kofun serves as more of a tutorial of what to expect in these vaults and shouldn’t be too difficult to complete. To get the ball rolling, you’ll need to head to the Izumi Coast sub-region, located to the southwest of Izumi Settsu and east of Sakai. If you start at Sakai itself and head directly east, you’ll eventually reach the Kofun site. Look for a gap in the wall and interact with it to enter it.

Exploring the Old Kofun¶

Start by heading down the slope to find a chest with some gear, pocket it and then go prone to go through the gap to the right of it. Follow the linear path until you reach a larger room and climb over to your left to continue following the path. At the end, you’ll reach a large gap you need to cross, look up and use your grapple to swing over.

As you continue to follow the path here, you’ll come across a small materials chest to loot, and then squeeze through the gap to continue. Leap into the water here and dive under to find a path you can follow to the other side and then use the grappling hook to get over another gap. Follow the path forward here (ignoring the path to your right) and you’ll need to crawl through another gap. As you follow the path further, one final, large, chasm awaits you where you’ll need to use your grappling hook again after the initial swing to hit a second one.

Once you’ve made the final jump, you can finally open the legendary chest to obtain the Amaterasu’s Blessing Legendary Trinket that also comes with the Damage for Unused Ability Slots Engraving. All that remains now is to head out of this room to the left and leave the Kofun.
