Upon meeting up with Gennojo in the Ogura Pond sub-region during Sake and Swords, you seem to understand him a little better. He’s mad that the samurai and big wigs leave the commoners with very little food, barely enough to survive, after they take more than their share. He asks you to meet him at the tax collector’s house in Kyoto, so you can see who the true culprits are in this whole scenario.
Honor Among Thieves will start in the northern end of Kyoto, next to Kubo Sama Old Residence.
Honor Among Thieves Location¶
After finishing up Sake and Swords, you will get the next quest from Gennojo, which will be marked on your map. It’s in the northern part of Kyoto and he’ll be standing right outside of the Kubo Sama Old Residence location. This place is a restricted area, so you won’t be able to go inside unless you want enemies attacking you, provided you’re seen. Either way, he’s right outside of the location, so speak to him to learn he wants you to rob the place. Of course, other than the desired scroll, anything else you loot from the place is yours to keep.
Honor Among Thieves - Scroll Location¶
You will have to contend with some servants inside of the restricted area, although there doesn’t seem to be any penalty for killing them. Leaving them alive makes it possible for them to alert one of the guards, but it’s not immediate and they only search around the area where the servant first saw you. The first thing you should do is use your Eagle Vision to tag enemies within the compound. You will also probably see multiple blue dots, meaning that there are some items you’ll find that aren’t the required scroll.
(1 of 4) There are multiple quest items here, but only one of them is the required scroll.
The best point of entry is probably where Gennojo is hanging out, since there is minimal guard presence there. This is also a good vantage point to tag more enemies, if needed. You might also want to try entering the place by the corner with the haypile, which is on the western side. The side with the haypile is kind of great, too, since you can immediately start thinning out the enemy numbers. After taking out the two enemies by the stables, climb over it and into a small section with a well. The two enemies found here are also pretty easy to kill, but the rest of them in the compound will be a little more challenging.
Keep checking around the place, from the rooftops, until you see any opportunities with isolated enemies. One of the houses in the northwestern corner is a good spot, although the scroll inside wasn’t the one we needed. The house right next to it, though, did contain the required scroll, which was a map of Yamashiro that pinpointed Nijo Palace. Once you have that item, you can actually leave the restricted area and return to Gennojo, unless you want to loot the rest of the place. Should you do that, then you’ll likely have to worry about more enemies, so it might not be worth the effort.
(1 of 3) Continue going after the blue dots to find items.
Honor Among Thieves - Romance Answer¶
With the scroll in hand, return to Gennojo to tell him you have the scroll. Trying to get an answer out of him as to the contents of the scroll, he cracks a joke and you’ll have your next chance to advance the romance with him. Should you want to do this, choose the I’m keeping it, then option. There’s another choice after this, but this one doesn’t affect anything, but just to be sure, pick the top one (I’m all in). The quest will end after this and the next one, Stolen Hearts, will begin.
