Naoe found a letter at her home in Iga, with it being from Matsu, the woman that helped train her when she was younger. While waiting for Naoe to come back, Matsu felt like she was nearing her end, so she went into the mountains for her final days. Thankfully, you found Matsu at the Hinotani Shrine and offer to find her some more appropriate shelter.
Matsu wants you to check up on the cabin on the hill.
Secure the Cabin - The Valley Yamabushi¶
After the initial conversation with Matsu, she will point out the small cabin she wants on the nearby hill. Just south of her position, you can use the large tree to dive into some hay and be right next to the path leading to the cabin. Cross the small bridge and start climbing the mountain path, which will eventually reach the cabin. Upon getting close enough, you will see what’s haunting these woods, The Valley Yamabushi. Note that if you haven’t started the Yamabushi Impostors quest, then you won’t get the reveal of the enemy’s name here.
However, looking at their health bar (eight segments), you will notice the icon that shows it’s an important target. This enemy will be kind of tough for Naoe, especially since it can summon other enemies and he has a lot of health. Despite the quest requiring you to use Naoe, you can actually switch to Yasuke here to have an easier time, since he’s a lot better in direct combat. To make things a little easier on yourself, sneak up on the fake Yamabushi to take off a chunk of his health with an assassination.
If you keep up the pressure on him, you won’t give him a chance to summon more enemies. Should he successfully do this, though, then you’ll want to focus on the lesser enemies first, since there will likely be some archers. The Yamabushi himself will largely just do unblockable attacks, meaning you’ll have to dodge them all. There is a chance he will also throw his weapon at all, causing him to use his bare fists, but he’ll still be using unblockable attacks that will just be faster in execution.
Once you’ve defeated The Valley Yamabushi, clear out any other enemies that may have been summoned and switch back to Naoe, if you used Yasuke. Speak to the old man, who mentions his brother in Yamato being a real Yamabushi and may have info on these frauds. That’s a completely different quest, though, as he also mentions that his granddaughter seems to be injured. You can return to Matsu now to tell her the cabin is clear and also start the next quest, Good for What Ails You.
