Changing characters in Assassin’s Creed Shadows is simple, once you’ve progressed far enough through the story to unlock both protagonists. Playing as Naoe will give you rapid movement whereas Yasuke’s abilities allow you to take on big hordes of enemies at once with little trouble thanks to his brute strength. There are many reasons why you might want to switch between characters, but it’s not explained early on in the game how to do that.
Yasuke is a Samurai who uses brute force mixed with a high level of swordsmanship to take down his foes.
How to unlock Yasuke¶
To unlock Yasuke as a playable character in AC Shadows you need to progress to Chapter 4 and Assassination 4, and then complete the Mibonu Showdown quest. While you do get to play as Yasuke early on in the game’s prologue, it’s just for a short combat tutorial, and you’re soon locked in with Naoe for around the next ten hours.

How to switch Character¶
After completing the Mibune Showdown quest, you’re free to switch between Naoe and Yasuke. There are several different ways to change characters. First of all, you can open your in-game inventory and look at the bottom of the screen. Secondly, opening the map and finding an unlocked Viewpoint or Kakurega, you can choose to fast travel as either Yasuke or Naoe depending on which character you’re already playing as. Finally, during some story cutscenes you will be asked who you’d like to play as once normal gameplay resumes.
There are certain objectives, Legendary Chest locations, and other areas which one character may not be able to get to. While you can choose to play as one character predominantly, there are going to be times where you’re forced to change. Due to their different playstyles, Naoe and Yasuke approach their objectives in different ways too.
