One of the main quests for Naoe in Assassin’s Creed: Shadows is hunting down the masked members who killed her father and left her for dead, the Onryo. You gain access to some of the missions for them after you unlock your Hideout, with only really two of them being in your level range for the beginning of the game. The Golden Teppo will involve a series of quests, starting with Searching Sakai. This quest will involve you finding out some information on the woman using the gold-adorned weapon used to shoot you.
You will find the gunsmiths around this area of Sakai.
Talk to the Gunsmiths¶
If you haven’t been to Sakai yet, it’s on the western coast of the Izumi Settsu region, a little more towards the south. Your first objective for this quest is to speak to the gunsmiths, with the quest mentioning that they are in central Sakai. A good tip for doing anything in this game is to hold down the Observe button (L2/LT) while walking around. If you see blue dots, then that indicates a quest objective. Using this knowledge, walk around the eastern/central area of Sakai and you will see four blue dots.
Three of these are merchants that won’t offer much of anything useful upon talking to them. However, the fourth is a pair of men arguing slightly away from them. Crouch down next to the wall there and eavesdrop on the pair, where you learn about some forged contracts. After listening in on their conversation, you will next need to talk with them. You will be presented with some choices here, but respond with I am with the Imai and I know Imai Sokyun’s son to move things along peacefully. All of the other choices for the first two options will lead to the three below.
(1 of 3) The normal merchants don’t offer much of anything to your cause.
When he mentions paying him, you will be shown three more options, with the choice affecting how things will progress after.
- You’re wasting my time.
- I will pay you. [500 mon]
- I don’t have enough.
Searching Sakai Choices¶
The third option allows you to leave and come back, where you’ll have the same three options. The first one will have both of the men run away from you, in different directions, but the only one you need to chase down is the one with the marker above his head. This can lead to more problems, though, as you might attract the attention of some of the guards in town. If you have the 500 mon on you, then the second option might be the best one.
The pair will take your money, but thinking they can milk a little more out of you, it will lead to a fight with both of them. Neither are particularly difficult to defeat, as long as you are well-versed in melee combat. Remember to keep an eye on both of them and get ready to parry/block their attacks, some of which might be multiple strikes in a row. Defeating them both will reward you with the forged papers, as well as the 500 mon you gave them.
(1 of 2) They will run away if you tell them they’re wasting your time.
They will run away if you tell them they’re wasting your time. (left), Should you pay them, it will lead to a fight with the two. (right)
Talk to Imai Sokyu¶
With the papers now in your possession, you have to find out where Imai Sokyu is located. Thankfully, you won’t need to go too far, as he’s in Sakai. He will be a little southwest of where you found the gunsmiths. It’s a little confusing, as he won’t be standing outside, but will be inside of a building. Enter it and go to talk to Sokyu, only to be stopped by his assistant. He will ask you some questions, with the name being really important (any is fine, but remember it). Imai Sokun is his name and he goes on a walk, asking you to follow him.
While walking with him, he will stop to take care of some business, but nothing eventful happens and he’ll continue after it. Eventually, he will enter another building, his office, so sit down for one final conversation. The choice here doesn’t matter, so pick whatever. Sokun will tell you that he’ll set something up with Sokyu, but you need to do some preparations on your end, including getting a kosode to wear, as well as learning the rituals with the ceremony itself.
This quest will come to a close, but will be succeeded by two more, which can be done in any order.
