As you progress through Assassin’s Creed Shadows, you’ll notice that you unlock various quest lines on the Objectives board. One of these objectives is an Unknown Organization later known as the Iron Hand Guild. Read on to find out how to unlock these series of quests, and what you’ll get for completing them.
The Iron Hand Guild will appear under Objectives when you unlock it.
How to Unlock The Iron Hand Guild¶
Before you can unlock the Iron Hand Guild, you must have completed the Temple of the Horseman main story quest and the quests that follow it until you regain control of the open world. To unlock The Iron Hand Guild quests, you need to find the letter mentioning them. This can be found at the Katano Oil Trading located to the southwest of Katano Castle, situated in the northern center of Izumi Settsu. If you have trouble finding this location, mark The Kabukimono member, Chief Cuckoo from the Objectives Board as this will lead you to Katano Oil Trading.
Katano Oil Trading is a hostile area with many enemies, so stealth is your best option here. Fortunately, there are numerous bushes to hide in as you make your way through the area. The letter can be found inside a small house near where you find Chief Cuckoo in the southern part of Katano Oil Trading. The location on the map is just under the ‘O’ of Oil when zoomed in. You will find the letter on a table, to the left of the chest.

The letter reads “With the death of Oda Nobunaga, the influence of the Imai family has waned. We shall take their place, using any means necessary. Our influence shall spread across the country and we will control trade with silver and steel”. This is signed by the Iron Hand, which subsequently unlocks a new segment on the Objectives Board. If you hover over it, it’ll show up as “Unknown Organization”, but it will have the Death of Merchants in Settsu you can track. Completing this quest unlocks the Iron Hand Guild proper.
Although you technically already have it unlocked, completing the aforementioned quest will change the name on the Objectives Board from Unknown Organization to The Iron Hand Guild. Completing the entire Iron Hand Guild quests/assassinations will reward you with 5000 XP, a Legendary Trinket for Naoe, and a piece of Gold, which is an extremely rare resource.
That’s it for Unlocking the Iron Hand Guild series of quests. Note that you won’t be able to complete the majority of them until you reach a high level as one or two of them are level 30+. However, you will be able to complete Death of Merchants in Settsu and Merchant Tamao. Note that you’ll also unlock The Twisted Tree series of quests on the Objective Board after taking out Merchant Tamao.
