How to Unlock the Tea Bowls for Rikyu Quest

As mentioned above, you’ll need to complete The Tea Ceremony quest, which is found under The Shinbakufu on the Objectives Board. Upon completing the quest, head to Kyoto in Yamashiro, which is located north of Izumi Settsu. In Kyoto, make your way to the northern part, where you’ll find Sen no Rikyu. He’s just south of the Northern Kyoto Kakurega.

When you’ve found him, bow halfway, and ask him what he needs. He’ll ask you to retrieve seven Tea Bowls. The majority of these are purchased from six different Ornament Vendors found around the country, with the last requiring you to defeat one of The Shinbakufu. With the quest accepted, make your way to each location, find the Ornament Vendor, and purchase the Tea Bowls.

Rustic Tea Bowl Collection Location - Kyoto

Province Sub-Region
Yamashiro Kyoto

The first Tea Bowl you can find is in the same area as Sen no Rikyu. Make your way to the southern part of Kyoto, where you’ll find the Southern Kyoto Kakurega (Fast travel here if you already have it). The Ornament Vendor is a little to the northeast of the Kakurega.

Make your way northeast while holding the Observe button. The Vendor will appear as a small white dot, making it easier to track them down. When you find the vendor, take a look at their shop, and purchase the Tea Bowl at the top for 125 Mon.

(1 of 3) The Ornament Vendor in Kyoto is in the south, northeast of the Southern Kyoto Kakurega.

Intricate Tea Bowl Collection Location - Sakai

Province Sub-Region
Izumi Settsu Sakai

Next up is Sakai in Izumi Settsu. Make your way (or fast travel) to the Sakai Kakurega in the Sakai Firearms District. From there, head northwest toward the Port of Sakai while holding the Observe button. You should find a white dot while making your way there; this is the Ornament Vendor. Once again, take a look at their wares, and purchase the Tea Bowl at the top for 125 Mon.

(1 of 3) The Onnament Vendor in Sakia is northwest of the Sakai Kakurega.

Unique Tea Bowl Collection Location - Sakamoto

Province Sub-Region
Omi Sakamoto

This Tea Bowl is the first one where you’ll need to do a bit of traveling. The Omi Province is east of Yamashiro, and the place you’re looking for is Sakamoto. The easiest way to find the place is to go to the Nijo Tenshu Viewpoint (fast travel) and go east. This will take you through the Hills of Meeting, where you’ll find the Pagoda of the Hills Viewpoint.

From there, begin going northeast, but only slightly, and you should end up in Sakamoto. When you reach Sakamoto, continue east (while in the center) to find the Sakamoto Kakurega, and head north from there while holding in the Observe button to find the Ornament Vendor. Take a look at their shop, and purchase the Tea Bowl for 125 Mon.

(1 of 3) Sakamoto is east of Yamashiro. The Ornament Vendor is north of the Kakurega.

Sophisticated Tea Bowl Collection Location - Azuchi

Province Sub-Region
Omi Azuchi

This Tea Bowl is also in the Omi Province, but this time at Azuchi. The easiest way to get there is to take a boat east across the lake. However, this does involve going into The Great Keep (Castle) in Sakamoto. Stick to the roofs and make your way to the Viewpoint. From the Viewpoint, dive into the lake below, and you’ll find a small boat you can use. Take the boat east (slightly northeast) and you’ll soon find Azuchi.

The alternative method to reach Azuchi is by exiting Sakamoto via the south and following the edge of the lake around until you can head north. When you reach Azuchi, you’ll want to go west past the Sokenji Temple Viewpoint onto the small island where you’ll find the Ornament Vendor near the path, to your left. As always, use the Observe button after you reach the small island to make it easier to find them. Speak to the vendor, and purchase the Tea Bowl at the top for 125 Mon.

(1 of 3) Take a boat from Sakamoto to Azuchi. The Ornament Vendor will be west of the Castle.

Simple Tea Bowl Collection Location - Kameyama

Province Sub-Region
Tamba Kameyama

To the west of Kyoto (Yamashiro) is the province, of Tamba. In Tamba, you’ll find the sub-region, Kameyama, which is where you’ll find the Ornament Vendor. The easiest way to get here is to fast travel to the Southern Kyoto Kakurega and head straight west. Along the way, you should encounter the Forsaken Pagoda Viewpoint, which is situated in the far west of Yamashiro. Unlock the Viewpoint and Observe to the west to find another Viewpoint.

This is Kameyama, and the Ornament Vendor will be to the south of it. When you reach Kameyama, go south from the Viewpoint to find the Kameyama Kakurega, and the Ornament Vendor will be a short way to the southeast of it. Make sure you use the Observe button to find the white dot to find them. Speak to the vendor, and purchase the Tea Bowl at the top for 125 Mon.

(1 of 3) From the Southern Kyoto Kakurega, head west to find Kameyama.

Elegant Tea Bowl Collection Location - Obama

Province Sub-Region
Wakasa Obama

This one can take a while to reach as it’s far in the north of the Wakasa province, in the sub-region, of Obama. The best way to get here is to fast travel to the Northern Kyoto Kakurega and head north through the Genbu Highlands to reach Wakasa. In Wakasa, continue going north through the Onryu Pass, and eventually, you’ll reach Obama. This is quite the journey and some patience is required to reach the destination.

The Ornament Vendor is in the Kara Market, which is situated on the eastern side of Obama, northeast of the Obama District Kakurega, southeast of the Obama Guard Tower Viewpoint. When you reach Kara Market, go into Observe mode to locate a small white dot, and head toward it to find the Ornament Vendor. Speak to the vendor, and purchase the Tea Bowl at the top for 125 Mon.

(1 of 3) Obama is far to the north in the Wakasa province.

The Wise Tea Bowl Collection

Province Sub-Region
Yamato Nara Heartland

Unlike the other Tea Bowls, the final one requires you to take care of The Wise, one of The Shinbakufu on the Objective Board. Unfortunately, this requires you to get near the end of the game, as The Wise is one of the last Shinbakufu you’ll take out. The quest where you’ll find The Wise is “Darkness Falls”, and he can be found at Kofukuji Temple in Yamato.

The Wise is a late-game Shinbakufu, which you’ll encounter later on in the game.

Rewards

For doing all this work, you’ll receive a paltry 1100 XP, but the real reward from this quest is the trophy/achievement, “Collector”, which is awarded for completing a collection. This trophy can also be unlocked by doing another collection quest if you don’t fancy trekking across the country.

That’s it for Sen no Rikyu’s quest. Probably not worth the effort involved to complete the quest, but it will unlock you access to the entire game world provided you unlock a Viewpoint in each province, which is handy for every other quest you’ll encounter later.
