There are a number of side quests to be found in Assassin’s Creed: Shadows, especially as you complete the main story missions. Revisiting your home in the Iga region will have you come to the realization that someone has been sleeping there. There’s a letter on the ground and upon reading it, you see that it was Matsu! It seems she has given up on your return and is off to go on her own for her final days. This page will detail where to find Matsu, who will be at the Hinotani Shrine.

Where to Find Matsu at Hinotani Shrine¶
This is the first in a series of short quests for Matsu, with the first one being to track her down. The in-game clues mention that she’s in the Iga region, in the western half of the Nabari Wilds sub-region. Specifically, you will find her at Hinotani Shrine, so you have a little bit of a lead. Southwest of Naoe’s house is the Hijiyama sub-region and southeast from there is Nabari Wilds. Now, Nabari Wilds covers a lot more area than you think, so you’ll have to cover a lot of ground on your own if you search blindly.
If you have Kashiwara Village unlocked, just south of the Hijiyama sub-region, that’s a good starting point for finding Matsu. In the southeastern corner of the village, there is a bridge not too far from the restricted area. Cross this bridge and follow the path south to eventually reach the Hinotani Shrine, with Matsu standing right in front of it. Speak with her to help her find a place to stay, with Matsu mentioning a small cabin up on the nearby hill.

Note that this will end this quest and automatically start the next one, called The Monk’s Wake.
