Horizon Forbidden West

Prototype Spike Thrower (Uncommon)

By
Staci Miller

The Prototype Spike Thrower is part of the Spike Thrower archetype. Spike Throwers are simply spikes thrown that explode a few seconds after landing. While their execution can be very slow, they hit hard when they land, so they can be great in some situations.

The Prototype Spike Thrower is one of the earliest accessible Spike Throwers in the game, and likely the first you’ll get.

Description

Built by Delah and Boomer, this weaon can launch Explosive Spikes that detonate after a short delay. Spikes must be thrown at full draw in order to penetrate armor.

Where to get the Prototype Spike Thrower

To get this weapon, you’ll have to unlock the errand in Chainscrape called A Bigger Boom. Talk to two Oseram tinkers to unlock it, and they will offer to build Aloy a weapon… if she can find the right parts.

You’ll have to collect 3x Charger Horn and 1x Fanghorn Rib from Machines.

Best Use

Spike Throwers are best used for slow machines that you want to get rid of quickly. Although the damage they can deal is shockingly mighty, it takes quite a while to load them up and quick machines may get the better of you in that time.

They’re also great to use from some cover or a slight distance, where even the fastest machines might take a second to get to you.
