Horizon Forbidden West

Sun-Touched Hunter Bow (Rare)

By
Nathan Garvin

Information about the Sun-Touched Hunter Bow in Horizon Forbidden West, including how to obtain it, how to upgrade it, and what the strengths and weaknesses of the Sun-Touched Hunter Bow are.

Sun-Touched Hunter Bow Description

“A trophy kept by the Tenakth, this mid-range Carja bow has an increased chance of landing extra powerful Critical Hits.”

You can buy this weapon from the Hunter in Scalding Spear.

How to Get the Sun-Touched Hunter Bow

Location Cost
Scalding Spear Hunter 632 Metal Shards + 1x Tracker Burrower Circulator

You can buy this bow from various merchants in the western half of the Forbidden West. To access these areas you must complete the quest The Eye of the Earth, which is about a third of the way through the main questline.

Once this hurdle has been overcome, you still have to make the trek west to find merchants who keep this weapon in stock. One of the earliest is a Hunter in Scalding Spear, and while you can also buy the Vanguard Hunter Bow there, the components for this bow are much, much easier to obtain.

Speaking of which, in addition to the Metal Shards you’ll need to trade a Tracker Burrower Circulator. By this point in the game, this variant of Burrower is fairly common, so getting one of these components shouldn’t be much bother.

How to Use the Sun-Touched Hunter Bow

The Sun-Touched Hunter Bow is, in many ways, a poor-man’s version of the Vanguard Hunter Bow, and while both can be purchased around the same time, the latter is far more expensive, especially due to the [Tideripper] Heart required to buy it. Compared to an earlier Hunter Bow, the Slicing Hunter Bow, you’ll find this is a moderate improvement in almost every way; it deals more Impact and Tear damage, has access to both Hunter Arrows and Advanced Hunter Arrows, as well as Fire Arrows. The Fire damage dealt by this bow is superior to that of the Fire Hunter Bow, but inferior to the Wildfire Hunter Bow, befitting this weapon’s rarity.

In addition to its superior base damage, this bow also gains three perks - Critical Hit Chance, Critical Hit Damage and Overdraw Damage, making it a decent all-rounder that’s just as useful for fighting Midweight machines as it is for picking off wildlife.

As with most rare weapons, the Sun-Touched Hunter Bow can aspire to two Coil Slots when fully upgraded.

All in all, the Sun-Touched Hunter Bow is a fine mid-game upgrade that can hold you over until you get the Vanguard Hunter Bow, but if you’re more daring, you can also just skip this weapon and go hunt a Tideripper, instead.

  • Hunter Arrows: Your standard ammuntion for the Hunter Bow. Deals low Impact damage and moderate Tear damage. Good for hunting animals and removing components, but lacks the punch required to bring down heavier machines.

  • Fire Hunter Arrow: Your generic Fire Arrow, it deals light Fire damage and inflicts moderate Fire Buildup.

  • Advanced Hunter Arrows: Boasting roughly double the strength (and ten times the cost) of normal Hunter Arrows, these are much more suited for dealing with heavier machines. Deals moderate Impact and heavy Tear damage. Probably wasted on wildlife.
