Sharpshot Bow (Uncommon)

By
Nathan Garvin

Information about the Sharpshot Bow in Horizon Forbidden West, including how to obtain it, how to upgrade it, and what the strengths and weaknesses of the Sharpshot Bow are.

As may be inferred from its name, the Sharpshot Bow is part of the… Sharpshot Bow category of weapons.

Sharpshot Bow Description

“Commonly spotted atop Plainsong’s dishes, this bow has a slow firing rate to deliver precise, powerful shots at long range, which can destroy components instead of tearing them off.”

You can buy the Sharpshot Bow from merchants in The Daunt.

How to Get the Sharpshot Bow

Location Cost
Chainscrape Merchant, Hakund Metal_Shards_Icon_Horizon_Forbidden_West.png Metal Shards hfw_charger_circulator_icon2.png Charger Circulator

Despite being essential kit at the end of Horizon Zero Dawn, in the sequel Aloy hasn’t retained possession of such a weapon. To get the Sharpshot Bow again you’ll need to complete the main quest [To the Brink], at which point, Hakund in Chainscrape and the Hunter in Barren Light will both sell it. It’ll set you back 127 Metal Shards and a Charger Circulator.

To get a Charger Circulator, just kill [Chargers] until one drops. It’s an uncommon droop, but you don’t need to knock off any specific parts or take the machine down in any specific way to get it.

How to Use the Sharpshot Bow

The Sharpshot bow is a sniper’s best friend. Or rather, the bare minimum weapon in the category. Still, compared to other uncommon weapons the Sharpshot Bow’s got great range and damage output, even if it does take a while to draw and the ammo is both limited and slightly more expensive.

Given its merits as a ranged weapon and its slow draw speed, the Sharpshot Bow is best used to snipe from afar. Range makes stealth easier, and the Sharpshot Bow is therefore naturally compliments a stealthy playstyle.

Given the Sharpshot Bow’s high Impact damage output and low Tear damage, it’s not the best choice for tearing off parts - it’s for destruction, pure and simple.

How to Upgrade the Sharpshot Bow

Rank Effect Upgrade Cost
I Increased Weapon Stats Metal_Shards_Icon_Horizon_Forbidden_West.png Metal Shards, Braided_Wire_Icon_Horizon_Forbidden_West.png Braided Wire
II Increased Weapon Stats Metal_Shards_Icon_Horizon_Forbidden_West.png Metal Shards, Braided_Wire_Icon_Horizon_Forbidden_West.png Braided Wire, hfw_burrower_circulator_icon.png Burrower Circulator
III Increased Weapon Stats, Unlock Coil Metal_Shards_Icon_Horizon_Forbidden_West.png Metal Shards,Braided_Wire_Icon_Horizon_Forbidden_West.png Braided Wire, Small_Machine_Core_Icon_Horizon_Forbidden_West.png Small Machine Core, hfw_burrower_soundshell_icon.png Burrower Soundshell

As an uncommon weapon, the Sharpshot Bow is suitably simple to upgrade, mostly requiring mundane, easily-acquired components. The only one even remotly tricky is the Burrower Soundshell, which can only be obtained from Burrowers is the appropriate component is removed. In this case, of course, it’s the Soundshell. The Burrower will regularly expose this components while patrolling, just wait for them to rear up and expose their chests.

The Sharpshot Bow does not unlock any Perks.

Sharpshot Bow Ammo Types

Icon Name Effect
hfw_precision_arrow_icon.jpg Precision Arrows Deals Impact_Status_Icon_Horizon_Forbidden_West.png Impact and Tear_Status_Icon_Horizon_Forbidden_West.png Tear damage

The Sharpshot Bow is limited to Precision Arrows, which deal heavy damage, but costs signficiantly more Metal Shards than Hunter Arrows, requires Machine Muscle components, and produces far fewer arrows every time you craft. Not expensive by any means, but not to be expended quite as frivolously as some other arrows.
