Horizon Forbidden West

Trial 5: Silent Strike Trial

By
Jarrod Garripoli

Hunting Grounds are challenges that will test your mettle with various weapons in the game. This page will detail the Tear Trial at the Hunting Ground in Plainsong.

The Silent Strike Trial at the Plainsong Hunting Ground

Where To Find The Hunting Ground in Plainsong

While you can find the site of the Hunting Ground as soon as you have access to this area, you will be denied permission to participate in the trials until you have completed the main quest, The Dying Lands. Once you finish that portion of the main story, you will be able to locate the Hunting Ground to the northwest of the Plainsong settlement. If you have also located the Restless Weald Relic Ruin, then it will be directly east from there.

Grounds Keeper’s Tips

  • Use tall grass, Smoke Drums, and Smoke Bombs to stay hidden.
  • A red indicator means a machine has spotted you.
  • Use Silent Strike to take out machines without calling attention to yourself.
  • Using Strike from Above to kill unaware machines will count towards your goal.

How to Complete the Silent Strike Trial

The second Trial here will be a lot easier to complete than the first one. You will be required to use Silent Strike (or Strike from Above) to take out three Machines on the grounds. Thankfully, if you had to do the first Trial a few times in order to complete it, then you know the general vicinity of the Burrowers. That’s because the layout of the enemies here is the same across all three Trials, so that helps a lot. To perform a Silent Strike, you simply need to sneak up to an unaware enemy and press the R1 button when it appears. If there is a skull symbol next to the prompt, then that means the Silent Strike will kill that enemy.

(1 of 2) When you have done it properly, you will see the prompt to do a Silent Strike

When you have done it properly, you will see the prompt to do a Silent Strike (left), If above an enemy, you can do a Strike from Above (right)

You should only worry about the normal Silent Strike in this Trial, as the Strike from Above will be featured in the third one. At the beginning, slide down the rope on the left and hide in the tall grass until the Burrower passes by, then sneak up behind it to get the Silent Strike. From there, it’s just a matter of finding the other Burrowers and doing the same thing. Of course, to get the Full Stripes, you will need to be quick, as you only have a minute and thirty seconds. Remember to stay crouched when moving around, especially if you’re close to a machine, as walking normally will cause enough noise to make them notice. Note that despite the icon turning red at the top whenever you stealth kill a machine, this won’t count against you.
