Horizon Forbidden West

Purgewater Hunter Bow (Rare)

By
Nathan Garvin

Information about the Purgewater Hunter Bow in Horizon Forbidden West, including how to obtain it, how to upgrade it, and what the strengths and weaknesses of the Purgewater Hunter Bow are.

Purgewater Hunter Bow Description

“A mid-range bow crafted by the Oseram to drench targets. It can be upgraded to deliver Acid payloads and deal extra ranged damage after a successful melee attack.”

You can purchase the Purgewater Hunter Bow from the Hunter in Scalding Spear.

How to Get the Purgewater Hunter Bow

Location Cost
Scalding Spear Hunter 632 Metal Shards + 1x Lancehorn Circulator

You can buy this bow from various merchants in the western half of the Forbidden West. To access these areas you must complete the quest The Eye of the Earth, which is about a third of the way through the main questline.

Once this hurdle has been overcome, you still have to make the trek west to find merchants who keep this weapon in stock. One of the earliest is a Hunter in Scalding Spear, whose price includes a [Lancehorn] Circulator as well as Metal Shards.

How to Use the Purgewater Hunter Bow

The most noteworthy feature of the Purgewater Hunter Bow is… well, in the name, really. It’s one of the earliest sources of Purgewater, at least with any form of bow as a delivery weapon. It also can make use of Acid Arrows, although this is a much more common elemental arrow variety. The damage output of this bow is nothing special - you either want it for the Purgewater Hunter Arrows, or you should spare your resources and ignore this bow.

As for its perks, it has the rather dubious “Melee Follow Up” perk as well as the “Overdraw Damage” perk. The former will cause bow attacks immediate following a melee attack to deal extra damage, while the latter will cause all overdrawn shots to deal extra damage… a feature that’s almost universal shared among Hunter Bows.

As with most rare weapons, the Sun-Touched Hunter Bow can aspire to two Coil Slots when fully upgraded.
