Super Mario RPG (2023)

Valentina Boss Guide - Super Mario RPG

By
Jessica Dillon

Valentina and Dodo are the bosses you will fight at Nimbus Castle. Unlike other boss fights, this one will start off with Dodo carrying off the party member in the middle of your team for a one-on-one battle. After they return, you will need to take on both bosses, and Valentina doesn’t have any weaknesses for you to exploit. The guide below goes over where to find Valentina and how to defeat her and Dodo in Super Mario RPG.

Valentina in the Nimbus Land boss battle.

Where to Find Valentina

When you finally encounter Valentina in Nimbus Castle, she will run away from you so proceed through the rest of the castle until you fall to the Hot Springs entrance. Once there, you will need to climb your way back up to Nimbus Land. Once you get there, a cutscene will play where Mario finally confronts Valentina and Dodo before the battle starts.

How to Defeat Valentina

Enemy Recommended Level HP Weakness
Valentina 15 2,000 None
Dodo 15 1,000 Fire

This battle starts off a bit differently than others as Dodo will grab the middle member of your party and take them for a one-on-one fight. We recommend having Mario, Bowser, and Peach on your team. Make sure to put Bowser in the middle slot. When he is taken by Dodo, use Bowser’s normal attack and hit the action command to quickly take down the side boss. Once you have done enough damage, Dodo and Bowser will return to the Valentina fight. You will need to fight Valentina with just two party members for a few turns before Dodo and Bowser return to the main battlefield.

It’s important to note that Valentina can cause a few different status effects like Mushroom and sleep. Use the Safety Ring on Peach to keep her from being affected, as both Therapy and Group Hug can heal these. Dodo is weak against Fire, so use Ultra Fireball to make quick work of him. Valentina, on the other hand, isn’t weak against any type of attack but is resistant to Ice. You will want to deal with Dodo first since he has low HP and is able to Mute your party with Flutterhush. This shouldn’t be too difficult, as he’s already taken damage from his one-on-one fight. Once he’s defeated, he will sit down and won’t attack the party anymore.

(1 of 4) The party member in the middle will have a one-on-one battle with Dodo.

Valentina is far more difficult, as many of her moves can’t be blocked. You will want to use Peach to keep your health up and attack her with physical moves. While she is powerful, she only has 2,000 HP, so the battle won’t be too difficult as long as you are keeping a watch on your own HP and have ensured that Peach can’t be affected by status effects. Once the battle is over, Valentina will run away, symbolizing that you have won.

Valentina Moves

Enemy Attacks and Abilities Attack Type Description
Dodo Flutterhush Special Attacks a single party member and can cause Mute.
Dodo Multistrike Special Attacks a single party member with a flurry of pecks.
Valentina Aurora Flash Special Attacks the entire party and has a chance of causing Sleep.
Valentina Blizzard Special Summons a blizzard unto the field to damage the entire party.
Valentina Crystal Special Drops a crystal on a single party member.
Valentina Diamond Saw Special Sends two saws to attack a party member from behind.
Valentina Drain Beam Special Sends out a beam to damage the entire party.
Valentina Petal Blast Special Summons a petal storm onto the field to damage the entire party. It can cause Mushroom.
Valentina Solidify Special Summons ice to encase the party.
Valentina Water Blast Special Summons water to gush up at the party.

Dodo and Valentina both feature moves that can trouble the party, like Flutterhush, which can cause Mute. Aurora Flash, which can cause Sleep, and Petal Storm, which can cause Mushroom. Additionally, many of Valentina’s attacks, like the ones mentioned above, can’t be blocked, making them even harder to deal with. Be sure to use Peach and keep items like Cleansing Juice to keep your party out of danger.

Valentina Rewards

There are no major rewards like pins that you will get from defeating Valentina and Dodo. You will get 200 coins and a total of 160 Exp for beating them both. In addition to this, you will now be able to access the Hot Springs, which will lead you to the volcano area.
