Super Mario RPG (2023)

The Three Musty Fears Flag Locations

By
Matt Chard

When you reach Monstro Town in Super Mario RPG, you can sleep in a bed for free. When you do this, you’ll be met by The Three Musty Fears. Although you’re asleep, they’ll ask you to play a game with them. They will hide three flags around the world, and you must find them. If you do, you’ll get an exceptional prize, the Ghost Medal, which doubles your defense! The Flags can be found in the following locations: Mario’s Pad, Rose Town, and Yo’ster Island. If you want further details, read on.

Sleep in the bed in Monstro Town to get the Three Musty Fears Minigame.

Greaper Flag Location

Open up the world map, and select Rose Town in the Tadpole Pond Region. In Rose Town, walk forward and check behind the wooden sign in front of you to find the Greaper Flag.

Dry Bones Flag Location

Once again, open up the map, but this time select Mario’s Pad, which is situated in the Mushroom Kingdom Region. Enter his house and check under the bed for the Dry Bones Flag.

(1 of 4) Dry Bones will mention the flag is hidden under a green bed.

Boo Flag Location

Finally, open up the world map again, select Yo’ster Isle which can be found in its own region, Yo’ster Isle Region, and make your way to the top of the racetrack. Here, you’ll find the word “GOAL” ingrained into the grass. Check on the floor between the O and A to find the Boo Flag. Note, Yo’ster Island is an optional area that can be accessed through the Pipe Vault zone. If you want to know exactly how to get there, head to our Yo’ster Isle Location Guide.

(1 of 3) Boo will tell you that the flag is hidden between an O and A.

The Three Musty Fears Minigame Reward

Now that you have all three flags, head back to Monstro Town, enter the third door, and select the mushroom in the corner to go to sleep. Once again, the three will visit you again, and thank you for playing their game before giving you your prize. This won’t appear on the screen, but you will hear a noise, and when you check your equipment, you’ll have the Ghost Medal equipped. This powerful accessory doubles your defense when you’re in combat, a must-have for the more difficult battles in the game, such as the Jinx battle upstairs.

Super Mario RPG is a wonderful and whimsical remake of the 1996 classic Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars. You’ll need to assemble a group of heroes (starting with Mario of course!) to embark on a quest to repair the wish-granting Star Road! Along the way you’ll encounter enemies from the Smithy Gang, and you’ll unlock access to a whole cast of nostalgic playable characters, from Princess Peach to Geno the puppet to the adorable Mallow.

This guide includes everything you need to make your way through the Super Mario RPG remake. Whilst this game is a faithful remake of the original, the game developers, ArtePiazza, have also included some fun post-game match-ups for those who are looking for an extra challenge and a departure from the OG game! We’ve got walkthroughs for the following:
