The Dogan bin Arslan (aka The Rebel Hunter) Investigation can be started at the Sharqiyah Bureau, located in eastern Baghdad. There you’ll meet Ali ibn Muhammad, Beshi, and Fuladh who are concerned about civilians who’ve been kidnapped from Jarjaraya, a town just southeast of Baghdad. On this page, we’ll show you how to investigate the teahouse in Jarjaraya, how to trail the informant to steal their orders from Al-A’eshma and Al-Rukh - two members of the Order of the Ancients - and how to earn the widow’s trust at the farmhouse. We’ll also detail where you can find the white flowers for the widow’s husband’s grave, and how to find her missing son.
Speak with Fuladh at the Sharqiyah Bureau¶
To begin this investigation, you need to speak with Fuladh at the Sharqiyah Bureau, located in the east of Baghdad. When you arrive at the Bureau, a cutscene will play during which Ali ibn Muhammad, Beshi, and Fuladh discuss what to do about the people who are being kidnapped from Jarjaraya, Ali’s hometown which is located just southeast of Baghdad. The scene will end with Ali and Basim deciding to travel to Jarjaraya together.
The Hunter - Speak with Ali and Travel to Jarjaraya¶
The journey to Jarjaraya with Ali will begin at Baghdad’s eastern gate, so you need to make your way there and speak with him. You’ll find a horse nearby which you need to mount before Ali will begin moving. Along the way, Ali and Basim will spar over their differing ideas about what it means to be free, but you’ll soon find yourself just outside Jarjaraya. Follow Ali to a nearby rooftop, where the next moves are discussed.
Investigate the Teahouse¶
Ali mentions that the teahouse in Jarjaraya is likely to yield some information about those who have been kidnapped. Your task is to go there and uncover anything that you can to learn more about the situation. You’ll find the teahouse roughly 100 meters south of the rooftop where you stopped with Ali. Upon arriving you’ll overhear an elder talking down to a servant, and you can approach him for information after the conversation.
The elder at the teahouse won’t be willing to provide you with any information for free, so you’ll need to offer a Merchant Token to get him to talk. He’ll tell you that a rebel has been talking with the slaves in a way that he finds unusual, but that isn’t saying much without a bit more context. You need to head to the southwestern side of the teahouse to find a drunken man gibbering beside a pool. All you need to do is approach him to begin a brief scene, during which Basim forces him to talk.
After speaking with the drunken man, you’ll learn that a couple of slaves went missing the previous night, while working in the fields. Unfortunately, that’s all the drunken man knows, but after speaking with him you’ll be called over by the owner of the teahouse, who is willing to say more if you follow him to a more secluded space. Just follow him up the stairs to the northwest, and speak with him under the canopy there. He’ll tell you that more slaves have been kidnapped recently, including one that he knows more personally. You’ll be directed to a farmhouse where the wife of this kidnapped slave lives, in the hopes of learning more.
Return to Ali and Tail the Informant¶
Before you go to the farmhouse, you should return to Ali and tell him about what you’ve learned. You’ll find him inside a house to the north, where he’s arguing with Beshi about the morality of torturing their enemy. You don’t get much say in the matter, but you do learn that an informant operates near the harbor in Jarjaraya, who you might be able to follow and glean some additional information from.
The harbor where the informant can be found is located in the northeast of Jarjaraya. Make your way there and hide in the foliage to get a good view of him. He should be sitting down on a bench, but he’ll soon get up and start moving. You need to follow him without being seen, and the best way to do this is by climbing the buildings along the route. The informant will stop every so often to check behind him, so you need to be out of sight when this happens. He’ll soon stop at another harbor area to the east, where you can sit on the nearby bench to eavesdrop on what he has to say.
As you listen in on what the informant is saying to the solider, you’ll see that the latter is handed a letter named “Informer’s Orders”. You need to pickpocket this letter from the solider as he walks by, so just stay near the bench where you eavesdropped on them and be ready to pickpocket him. Upon reading the letter you’ll learn that both the informant and the solider were gathering information for someone named Dogan bin Arslan, also known as The Rebel Hunter. He’s a member of the Order of the Ancients, so naturally he just made it onto your hit list. For now, however, you need to find that farmhouse and help the slaves.
Like Father, Like Son - Find the Widow’s Farm¶
The widow that the owner of the teahouse told you about can be found on her farm in the western outskirts of Jarjaraya. You’ll find her sat on a bench outside the house, and you can speak with her to learn more about what happened to her husband. You’ll discover that he was killed after being kidnapped, and now her son is missing too. She wants to bury her husband, but she needs some white flowers, so you’ll need to get some for her to gain her trust.
The white flowers mentioned by the widow can be found in the barren fields to the northwest of her farmhouse. You’ll find a patch of them on one of the raised hills there, but there are snakes in the area that you’ll need to kill first. After dealing with the snakes, just take one bunch of the flowers and bring them back to the widow.
Investigate the Son’s Disappearance¶
Now that you’ve gained the trust of the widow, she’ll tell you all that she knows about where her son might be. After the conversation, you need to use Eagle Vision to highlight some tracks on the road, heading south. You should be able to see a house in the distance, and this is where you need to investigate. You won’t be able to enter the house from the main entrance, so go to the southern side and move the barrier there to the right. You can then walk inside and inspect the letter on the table.
After reading the letter in the abandoned house, you can return to the widow and tell her about what you’ve found. The son has gone looking for his father at Dogan’s Farm, which is crawling with mercenaries. This is likely the place where the other kidnapped slaves have been taken, so you can rescue all of them in one move. Before you go there, however, you need to return to Ali and tell him about what you know. He can be found in the same house where you last spoke with him.
Rescue the Captured Rebels at Dogan’s Farm¶
After the brief scene with Ali, you can finally make your way to Dogan’s Farm. It’s located just a short distance to the southeast of Jarjaraya, so you can get there quickly on foot. When you reach the area you’ll find plenty of guards patrolling the farm, and you can see the cages where the slaves are being kept. It’s important that you try to remain undetected while you assassinate these first few guards since there are many more around the house in the distance which can be summoned if you make a scene. Kill the guards around the cages, then free the slaves, before moving on to the house.
There’s plenty of foliage that you can use to take cover around the house, so you shouldn’t find it difficult to remain unseen as you kill all of the guards in the area. Once you’ve cleared enough of them, head up the stairs in the nearby farmhouse to find the widow’s son. You can enter the room where he’s being kept either through the window on the second floor, or a door on the first floor on the southern side of the building.
Regroup with Ali and Kill Dogan¶
Now that you’ve rescued the widow’s son, he’ll ask to fight alongside you in the fight to come. It’s time to regroup with Ali, who you’ll find outside a small house to the west, alongside his rebel soldiers. Follow Ali and his soldiers to the estate in the south, where Dogan and his mercenaries have made their stronghold. Dogan is difficult to distinguish from the rest of the mercenaries since he appears as a regular captain, but if you kill everyone in sight (or watch Ali and his men do it for you), his death is inevitable.
Search for Clues on Dogan’s Body¶
Once you’ve dealt with Dogan and his mercenaries, you can loot his body for a clue related to who he has been working for. You’ll learn the names of two Order of the Ancients members - Al-A’eshma and Al-Rukh - providing enough information to begin the next investigation. This mission will end when you speak with Ali after the fight.
