The pickpocketing mini-game in Assassin’s Creed Mirage is relatively simple, but it can become trickier depending on who you’re trying to steal from. The key to mastering it comes from timing since you’ll have a relatively small window to execute the action. It may take some practice before you get the timing right, but if you’re still struggling after an extended period, there are ways to make it easier, or even remove the mini-game altogether. On this page, we’ll provide a brief guide for how to successfully pickpocket every time.
How Pickpocketing Works in AC Mirage¶
You may find yourself wondering why you need to bother with the pickpocketing mini-game in Assassin’s Creed Mirage. In general, pickpocketing and stealing mechanics aren’t always worth the effort in games. In this case, however, you can gain more than just coin from pickpocketing in AC Mirage. You’ll need to do it for some specific quests, during which you have to find NPCs who carry valuable items such as Dervis’ Artifacts, which also happen to be a collectible for most of the major districts in the game.
Khidmah (Favor) Tokens¶
In addition to quest-specific items, you can also pickpocket civilians to obtain Khidmah (aka Favor) Tokens, which come in the form of Power Tokens, Merchant Tokens, and Scholar Tokens. Each of these can be used for different purposes, and they’re incredibly useful to have a handful of at any given time. We’ve provided a breakdown of what each type of token can offer in the table below.
Token | Use |
---|---|
Power Token | Used to pay Mercenaries to attack nearby guards or bribe a Munadi to lower your notoriety. |
Merchant Token | Used to open Token Chests, or to pay Merchant Groups that allow you to blend in with them and enter restricted areas. Giving them to Traders will prompt them to give Basim special shop discounts. |
Scholar Token | Used to pay Musicians and prompt them to play music and attract nearby guards, or to buy Maps at the Cartographer. |
Aside from the general uses listed above, there will also be unique prompts to use different tokens during specific events in the story, so you can see why they’re genuinely useful to have. It’s good practice to pickpocket as many civilians as possible until you have at least three of each to carry with you at any given time.
Stealing Dirham From Civilians¶
The other main asset that you can acquire from pickpocketing civilians is Dirham, the prevailing currency in Baghdad. You’ll usually get small amounts for each civilian that you steal from, but if you’re lucky you can also get more valuable items, such as jewelry, which you can then sell to traders. It’s slow going compared with looting from chests or completing missions, but if you need a few extra coins to get something in particular, especially early on in the game, it’s a viable option.
How to Master the Pickpocketing Mini-Game in AC Mirage¶
Now that we’ve covered why you might want to bother pickpocketing in AC Mirage, we’ll briefly explain how the mini-game works. In essence, all you have to do is find someone with the relevant icon associated with their character. This will be a red hand alongside the word “Pickpocket”, which will appear on any viable NPC. All you need to do then is approach them, and press the interact button to steal ( on PC, on Xbox, and on PS5), then press it again when the border that appears enters the blue area, as shown in the screenshot below.
So long as you get the timing right, you can essentially pickpocket any NPC at any time, even if there are guards nearby. The idea is that if you click within the blue border, you’ve snatched what you need without anyone noticing, including the person you’ve stolen from. In general, it’s a good idea to be ready to hit the interact button just before the border reaches the blue area so that you can preempt the selection before the window passes. However, this is more a game of intuition than strategy, so you may need to practice before you can do it consistently.
How to Turn Off the Pickpocket Mini-Game in AC Mirage¶
If you’re struggling with the pickpocketing mini-game or you just don’t want to be bothered with it, you can actually turn it off by going to the gameplay settings in the options menu. Here you’ll find the option for “Guaranteed Pickpocket”, which will allow you to press the interact button just once on anyone that you can steal from, and you’ll automatically receive the items without having to get the timing right. We highly recommend you avoid doing this unless you absolutely need to.
