Al-Rabisu Investigation - The Great Symposium - Assassin’s Creed Mirage

By
Scott Peers

The Al-Rabisu investigation in Assassin’s Creed Mirage can be started once you’ve completed the Ahmad ibn Musa and Al-Zarik investigations. At this point, you’ll be prompted to attend The Great Symposium at The House of Wisdom, where you’ll see Fazil Fahim speak. There’s more to this event than meets the eye, though, and it’s your job to figure out what is going on by following the clues. On this page, we’ll show you how to find Fazil using two main methods: by accessing the basement in the western outer courtyard after stealing the gardener’s key, or by searching the library for one of Fazil’s books, which reveals the passphrase required to enter the basement directly.

Attend the Symposium at the House of Wisdom

The first thing you need to do as part of this investigation is go to the House of Wisdom and attend the symposium there. You should already know where it is since you’ve been there before, but if you need a reminder the location is shown in the screenshot below, in the westernmost part of Baghdad. Once there, enter the inner courtyard and speak with Kahraman, who can be found near the fountain. He’ll tell you to wait for the symposium to start, and in the meantime, you can explore the area to find opportunities.

Eavesdrop on the Poetry Fans

One of the first things you can do is eavesdrop on the nearby poetry fans, located in the southwest corner of the inner courtyard. You’ll need to sit on the bench to get in a good position to eavesdrop without them noticing. They’re wondering where to find Arib, a famous poet who is supposedly in attendance, and one suggests that she might be found in the garden in the easter outer courtyard. You can visit her soon, but there’s more to do first.

Speak with Nehal

As you make your way towards the northeast entrance to the inner courtyard, Nehal will beckon to you. After a brief conversation, you can follow her into Ahmad ibn Muhammad’s workshop, and you’ll have the opportunity to interact with several diagrams to prompt more dialogue with Nehal. Be sure to use Eagle Vision if you’re struggling to find them all. The last one that you can interact with is on the southeast side of the room, and it’ll trigger a cutscene once you’ve interacted with all of the others.

Find and Speak with Arib the Poet

Now that you’ve had the scene with Nehal, you can go to the eastern outer courtyard and speak with the poet, Arib. She doesn’t have much to say, but after speaking with her you can go back to the inner courtyard and speak with Kahraman to attend the symposium. He can be found on the northeastern side of the courtyard.

Find a Way Into the Secret Tunnels

The lecture will be given by Fazil Fahim, and it won’t be long before your suspicions about his association with the Order of the Ancients are confirmed. He’ll soon leave the lecture hall in a hurry, and you have to gain more information about where he went. To do this, go back to the inner courtyard and eavesdrop on the scholars there. You can identify the correct group using Eagle Vision. Just sit on the bench nearby and listen in. You’ll soon learn that Fazil has likely fled to a secret tunnel system beneath the House of Wisdom, and there are two main ways to get there: enter via the basement in the western outer courtyard, or find a passphrase from one of Fazil’s books in the library to enter from the inner courtyard. We’ll cover how to do both below.

Where to Find the Basement in the Western Outer Courtyard

If you want to take the route into the tunnels beneath the House of Wisdom via the basement in the western outer courtyard, you need to find and speak with Kahraman first. He can be found on the northwest side of the inner courtyard, and you’ll need to give him a Scholar Token before he’ll reveal the location of the basement.

Location of the Rooftop Gardener’s Key

Now that you know where to find the basement, you need to obtain the key for it from the rooftop gardener. As you might expect, the gardener can be found on the roof of the House of Wisdom, so all you need to do is climb there from the inner courtyard. As you approach the top, use Eagle Vision to highlight the location of the patrolling guards, and kill any in your path if necessary. You’ll find the gardener roaming this area, and you just need to pickpocket him for the key.

Once you have the key to the basement, look to the western corner of the outer courtyard in the House of Wisdom to find the entrance. All you need to do is drop down here to enter the hidden tunnels.

(1 of 4) Use your bird to scout for the location of the gardener if necessary.

How to Access the Basement With the Passphrase

If you’d rather enter the basement by finding the book with the correct passphrase in the library, you can start by speaking with the gatekeeper who you’ll find just behind Kahraman. He’ll say only one thing: “Those Who Came Before are…?”, but you won’t be able to respond to him until you’ve read the relevant book which contains the rest of the phrase. To find it, you need to explore the library upstairs.

The first thing you’ll encounter as you go up the stairs is two servants talking about the missing book. Be sure to eavesdrop on them to learn more, then follow them through the door to the northeast. There are some guards in the hallway here who you’ll need to assassinate, and a few documents are highlighted along the way. You don’t need to read these to complete the objective, but they’ll give you a bit more context.

(1 of 2) You’ll find the relevant book on the balcony adjacent to the library.

Keep moving down the hallway as you take out the guards. You will soon reach a large room on the southwest side of the library which is adjacent to a balcony, where the correct book can be found on a bench. Read it to learn the rest of the passphrase: “Those Who Shall Return”. Now that you know it, you can make your way back to the gatekeeper and quote the passphrase to gain entrance to the tunnels beneath the House of Wisdom.

Find a Patient’s Robe to Assassinate Fazil

Whichever way you do it, once you’re in the tunnel system you’ll need to assassinate a number of guards to reach the bottom. Most of this can be done using your hidden blade, but you can also use throwing knives to cause fire pots to explode where they’re present, thereby killing multiple enemies at once. Keep going until you reach a room where the “Robing is “Mandatory” note can be found on top of a box. This is useful information since you now know that if you find a robe, you can enter the ritual and get close to Fazil.

Luckily for you, one of these robes can be found on a dead patient in the room just to the right of where you found the note. The door is locked, but you can get inside by going through the cell door to its left, then under a small gap in the wall. With the robes equipped, continue along the linear path until you meet a guard, who will guide you to the room where the ritual is taking place. A cutscene will begin when you enter the circle, and you’ll have your opportunity to assassinate Fazil with your hidden blade.

(1 of 4) Assassinate the guards as you make your way through the tunnels.

With the deed now done, you can make your way out of the tunnels and leave the grounds of the House of Wisdom to complete the mission.
