Walkthrough for the Mainz Mountain Path Tunnel in Chapter 1, during the main quest Monster Damage Investigation in The Legend of Heroes: Trails from Zero. It will include the basic information, like monsters encountered and treasures you can find.
Exploring the Mainz Mountain Path Tunnel¶
You’ll come to this small area upon passing through the screens of the Mainz Mountain Path. This area is only a single screen, but you will encounter new enemies here, so be ready to scan them. There’s really not much more to say about this area. Note that there is one more screen of the Mainz Mountain Path after the tunnel, so that will also be included on this page.

Earth/Water/Fire/Wind Sepith x50 | Inside tunnel |
Engineer Boots | Inside tunnel (Monster Chest) |
There are two enemies you need to watch out for in the tunnel, which are the Mottled Killer and the Mottled Murder. Both of these spiders have a move called Deadly Stroke, which has a chance to instantly kill the character it hits. Something you will want to do between this area and before reaching the town, is have Randy reach level 17. This is because he learns the Crash Bomb Craft, which will be extremely useful in an upcoming fight. Make your way through this tunnel, until you reach a fork, where you can either go down or continue north. Going down will lead to an exit, but the party goes back inside the tunnel, meaning you won’t be able to go that way for now.
Return to the fork and head north to another split, where you want to take the little journey up the hill to find two chests at the end. One will contain x50 Sepith for Earth/Water/Fire/Wind, while the other is a monster chest that pits you against two Mottled Murders and four Mottled Killers. If you feel like using a S-Craft here, like Tio’s or Randy’s, then that will certainly help. As mentioned above, both of these enemies have an insta-death attack called Deadly Stroke, with the Murders seemingly having better chances of it landing, so they should be your main focus first. Your reward for winning the battle is a pair of Engineer Boots.
Double back to the second fork now and continue north, to the exit of the tunnel.

Upon exiting the tunnel, there will be a scene that takes place and eventually, you will be presented with a choice. Choose the third option, Both howl and appearance, to get a bonus of 2 DP. With that out of the way, you can begin exploring this final area of the Mainz Mountain Path. There will be one new enemy in this little area, the Rozu, so make sure you get into a battle to scan it. Once you’re done fighting monsters, continue across the bridge and climb the hill straight ahead. At the top of the hill, head right to a dead end with a chest, containing a Reviving Balm. The other paths all lead to dead ends, so the only way to go is the one way to arrive at the Mainz Mining Village.
