Chapter 1 Day 2 - Mainz Mining Village

By
Jarrod Garripoli

Walkthrough for the Mainz Mining Village in Chapter 1, during the main quest Monster Damage Investigation in The Legend of Heroes: Trails from Zero. It will include the basic information, like monsters encountered and treasures you can find.

Finally, it’s the Mainz Mining Village!

You’ll finally arrive at Mainz Mining Village after making the trek through the Mainz Mountain Path and Mainz Mountain Path Tunnel. The party makes some remarks about the town, as well as the state-of-the-art vehicle parked near the entrance.

Items Location
Back Alley Dr. Glenn #3 Miner Max at night, before waiting for midnight

Exploring Mainz Mining Village

There isn’t really much to do here, which makes sense as it’s a mining town. You can check the general store to restock on any usable items you may have squandered getting to this place. Also, if you missed either issue of Back Alley Dr. Glenn up to this point, the store sells both Chapters 1 and 2 for 400 Mira each. That’s about all right now, so let’s continue with the story a little bit.

(1 of 3) You can purchase these here if you didn’t get them before

Make your way to the mayor’s house, which is on the same level as the entrance to the town, on the opposite side. Interact with the front door for a scene, then you will need to go around town and gather some information. You likely only need to speak to certain NPCs, but just go around and talk to everyone. This includes all of the NPCs walking around outside, as well as those inside the buildings, and even the shopkeepers. You may have spoken with some people prior to checking the mayor’s house, but do so again, just in case.

Once you have spoken to everyone, approach the mayor’s house to initiate another cutscene. When it’s over, run back to the mayor’s house and enter it for one more scene. The game will switch over to the party being inside the inn, where they will go over what they know about the case. There will be multiple questions here, with the correct answers rewarding you with DP. The answers are as follows:

  • Monsters’ motive
  • Unknown
  • Wolves’ Abilities
  • Black Wolves
  • Property Damage/Injuries
  • Shizuku MacLaine

You will now be able to walk around Mainz Mining Village again, but you won’t be able to leave it. In order to progress the main story again, inspect the table inside the inn. However, there are two things you can do before then, so let’s get those out of the way first. Head back down to the round house at the bottom of the village and speak to the person in bed, Max, to receive Back Alley Dr. Glenn #3. For the other thing, head to the top of the village and speak to Mine Chief Hoffman to be able to enter the mines. It should be noted that this is completely optional, but it’s helpful for a few reasons.

(1 of 3) Choosing the right answers here will reward you with bonus DP

It allows you to get another entry for your Combat Notebook, plus there are a few treasure chests within the mines you can grab now. The items are nothing major, but every little bit helps. Lastly, if you’re not level 17 with Randy yet, then the extra experience can’t hurt, and it does also help with getting your CP up for the upcoming battles that will cap off Chapter 1. As already mentioned, Randy gains Crash Bomb at level 17 and it’s extremely helpful in the upcoming battles.

Exploring the Mainz Mine

Items Notes
Teara Balm Second area
HP 2 Quartz Second area
Reviving Balm Second area
Martial Arts Uniform Second area

This is completely optional and you can come back here at the beginning of Chapter 2 to get the Combat Notebook entry, as well as the treasures. The Sticky Slug is the only enemy you will find here, so you don’t have to worry about anything else. You also don’t have a map here, so you’ll be doing things a little blind. Other than enemies, the first area has nothing, so head east and use the stairs to reach the second area, where all four chests will be located. The first chest is in the northern end of the first section, by another set of stairs, and yields a Teara Balm. The one on the southern side is partially obscured by a rock, and contains a HP 2 Quartz.

(1 of 3) There is one new enemy to be found inside the mines

To get the other two chests in this area, go to where you got the first chest and use the stairs next to it to reach another section. As soon as you get off the stairs, loop around to the east and look in the alcove there for a chest (Reviving Balm). There will be one final set of stairs to the west, leading to the final chest at the very end, which contains a Martial Arts Uniform. There’s nothing else to do here, so heal up, and return to the inn.

When you’re ready to move on with the story, inspect the table in your room and choose to wait until midnight. There will be some scenes, then you’ll be thrust into a boss battle.

Boss: Doven Kaiser x3

Enemy Lv Elemental Effectiveness Drops
Doven Kaiser 16 Earth_Elemental.png 100 Water_Elemental.png 100 Fire_Elemental.png 100 Wind_Elemental.png 100 Beast Flesh, Reviving Balm

The first of two battles will pit you against three Doven Kaisers, which are slightly annoying, due to one of their attacks. Their attacks don’t hit all too hard, especially compared to other bosses up to this point, but there’s three of them and the damage can pile up. By far, the worst thing about them is their Fang attack, as it causes damage and will inflict AT Delay (similar to Randy’s Power Smash). This can make things complicated, especially if you require an upcoming turn to heal. This Fang attack also doesn’t seem like it can miss, which makes it easy worse.

(1 of 2) The dogs’ Fang attack is similar to Randy’s Power Smash and is annoying

The dogs’ Fang attack is similar to Randy’s Power Smash and is annoying (left), Use Crash Bomb to blind all of the enemies, making them miss their normal attacks often (right)

Thankfully, if you leveled Randy to 17 and gotten Crash Bomb, it can make this battle a lot easier. Crash Bomb has a pretty big AoE and can inflict Blind on the enemies, which is one of few status ailments they don’t resist. This will make them miss their normal attacks, likely causing your own characters to counter, chipping away at their fairly big health pool. Gauge the damage they do, heal when needed, and try to not use your S-Crafts here, as they can be a lot more useful in the next battle.

Boss: Mafioso and Doven Kaiser

Enemy Lv Elemental Effectiveness Drops
Mafioso - Machete 16 Earth_Elemental.png 100 Water_Elemental.png 100 Fire_Elemental.png 100 Wind_Elemental.png 100 Smoke Grenade, Teara Balm
Mafioso - Pistol 16 Earth_Elemental.png 100 Water_Elemental.png 100 Fire_Elemental.png 100 Wind_Elemental.png 100 S-Tablet, Battle Scope

The second battle will definitely be more challenging, as not only do you have to deal with the same three Doven Kaisers, but you also have two Mafioso added to the mix. Note that while they share similarities with the other Mafioso you fought, they are new entries in the Combat Notebook, so make sure you scan them. The Doven Kaiser are the same as the previous battle, so you don’t need to rescan them. It should also be noted that your status from the previous battle carries over to this one, so hopefully none of your characters are in a bad shape.

The Mafioso with the Machete can heal, while the one with the Pistol is able to summon more dogs. So, it might be a good idea to go after the one with the Pistol first, to cut off the reinforcements, then defeat the Machete one second, since you don’t need enemies being healed. If you didn’t use your S-Crafts in the previous battle, then having them here will do great wonders. Both Tio and Randy’s S-Craft should be able to hit four enemies each, which greatly reduces their HP. Aiming Randy’s S-Craft at the Mafiosos will also inflict them with Burn, since they don’t resist any ailments at all.

(1 of 3) S-Crafts can make this battle a lot easier

If you don’t have their S-Crafts, then Randy’s Crash Bomb will also be a key factor here, as it can Blind all of the enemies. Elie’s CP should be reserveed to using Holy Bullet, as it’s a great healing move, especially if your party is grouped together.

Upon winning the battle, watch the cutscenes that follow and you will be brought to the end of Day 2, as well as Chapter 1.
