Exploring Crossbell

When you first gain control during Day 2, after a few scenes, you will be given your duty for the day, which is to go to Mainz to continue the investigation. You will be able to freely explore Crossbell now, although there isn’t anything new here, except for checking the console for new quests.

(1 of 2) Being well-stocked with items is always a good idea

Being well-stocked with items is always a good idea (left), Don’t forget to get Battle Scopes for scanning enemies (right)

As already mentioned, there’s not much to do in Crossbell here, other than make sure you are prepared for the upcoming trek to Mainz. Make sure you are well-stocked on items, particularly Battle Scopes and Tear Balms. If you need money and have a decent excess of Sepith, then head to the IBC to sell them, as you will get a little more from them compared to any other vendor. There are no items to be gotten from any of the residents in the town, so when you are finally ready to continue the story, go to the Residential District and take the northern exit.

Exploring the Mainz Mountain Path

Depending on how you left off on the previous day, you shouldn’t have much trouble with the enemies on the Mainz Mountain Path. Apart from a Shining Pom and one other exception, all of the other enemies can be encountered walking around on the map, for right now, of course. The one exception mentioned above is a monster chest that contains level 35 enemies, which you will want to avoid for right now.

Items Notes
Blind Quartz First area
Time/Space/Mirage Sepith x50 Second area
Luminous Glasses Second area
Teara Balm Area east of bus stop
EP Charge Area east of bus stop

Upon first setting foot on the path, there will be a scene and thanks to Tio hearing a certain noise, you will be making the trek again and not using a bus. On the very first screen, you will see two different paths if you look at the map. One continues you towards the Mainz Mining Village, while the other brings you to the Crossbell Cathedral. There is absolutely nothing to see or do at the Crossbell Cathedral, so it’s not worth visiting it at all, unless you wish to just speak to the NPCs there. Return to the fork and start going in the other direction, where you will encounter the first enemies of the area.

(1 of 3) You can pick up a Blind Quartz from the chest in the first area

After crossing the first bridge, head south and at the dead end here, you will find a chest with a Blind Quartz. Continue north, following the path and defeating the enemies along the way, until you reach the next fork. Venture south and at the end, you will come to a pier that overlooks a little pond. This is a fishing spot and while you can catch a few new things here, it’s probably best to wait, as your only rod will limit things for now. In fact, the only catch you can get here right now is the Snow Crab. Double back to the split and enter the next area.

There is one new enemy on this screen, as well as two treasure chests. The first is a short ways from where you entered, at a dead end at the first fork (Time/Space/Mirage Sepith x50). This is also where the new enemy is located, the Nepenthes, so make sure you fight it for the scan, although you will find more later in this little overworld dungeon. About halfway through this second area, there will be a cutscene, then you’re free to continue exploring. Right before the exit to the third area, there will the second chest, just below it, which contains a Luminous Glasses accessory. It’s time to head to the third area now.

A little past the entrance to this area, there will be a fork, with one path leading across a bridge and the other going underneath it. If you opt to go for the high road, you will come to a chest that warns you of the impending danger. This is a monster chest and it contains level 35 monsters, so you will probably want to avoid opening it for now. However, it is possible to start the battle, use a Battle Scope to scan the Armored Hydra, then run away with the aid of a Smoke Grenade before they hopefully wipe your party. Of course, you can always come back much later in the game, when you are able to fell the creatures.

(1 of 5) You can grab an accessory from this chest

Retreat back to the fork and head under the bridge this time, where you will come to the bus stop and witness a cutscene. There will be another split here, and the party suggests checking out the one to the right, up some stairs. Note that there is a third Shining Pom that can spawn at this bus stop, which is different from the other two you might have encountered in other areas. If you wait for a bit longer, though, it becomes much easier to try and force the spawn of the Shining Pom here, so you can always come back later to get it.

Whenever you’re done, take the path to the right to reach the next area. If you take a look at the map here, you should see a large, red dot off on one of the side paths. This is the target for the Mainz Mountain Path Monster Extermination request. Defeat the enemies, then continue north, towards the next exit. There will be another little alcove near the exit, which contains two chests, so loot them for a Teara Balm and an EP Charge. Head to the exit and take it to arrive at some house called Rosenberg Studio. There will be a cutscene here, but you don’t find anything related to the case, so it’s back to the previous area. Back at the bus stop, take the other route and you will eventually arrive at the Mainz Mountain Path - Tunnel.
