The Missing Patrol

Some Carja went missing near the “Forsaken Village” in the valley between Daytower and Mother’s Crown. Why they were there in the first place is a matter of some speculation, and indeed, the Carja are so concerned by how the Nora might react to their presence there that asking Aloy to look for them seemed a better option than risking further provocation by looking themselves.

Follow various trails (left) to find signs of bloody struggle on a lake shore (right).

Leave Daytower and make your way back down into the valley, heading towards the first Corrupted Zone you cleared in the previous walkthrough section - the one east of the Bridal Veil Falls Vantage Point. A few steps northwest of the Campfire here you’ll find the body of a Carja guard, which should be scanned, then searched. Once done, turn southwest and use your Focus to find - then highlight- a trail that leads you to another corpse near the river. Scan and search the corpse, then follow the trail across the river to the south and along a road until you reach a search area. Search southeast of the road to find a discarded Carja Helmet, beyond which you’ll pick up another trail running southeast, then south to the shore of a lake. Search some blood on the sandy beach and Aloy will conclude that her search may come to fruition on an island to the south.

Snapjaws are vicious machines that can be grievously damaged by targeting their Blaze Canisters (left). Defeat the crocodilian machines and follow a trail to find the missing Carja guard (right).

Snapmaw Island

Swim southwest through lake to reach its island, then explore to the southwest to find the ruins of a brick structure. Before you get too comfortable here, however, search the shore west of the house to find a new machine - the Snapmaw. A crocodile machine? Because why not! These reptile-robots will even come to shore to expel Chillwater… possibly a mechanical equivalent of representing cold-bloodedness? This machine is dangerous in melee, capable leaping attacks and all sorts of other nastiness, but it can also spit freezing fluid at you. Fortunately, it’s weak to fire (a fine chance to try out your new Shadow Hunter Bow?), both its body and the Blaze Canisters on its shoulders are fine targets. It’s really hard to overstate how devastating the damage over time a well-modded fire damage Shadow Hunter Bow can do.

Scrap the crocodiles-bots and search their husks for a Carja Bow. Once done, search the ruins nearby to find some Ancient Debris and a Supply Crate you can loot. Next, search the eastern corner of the house to find the Text Datapoint - World “Reiker Building” behind a crumbling section of ceiling.

Talk to Lakhir and he’ll demand you recover his bow (left), which can be found on one of the Snapmaw’s you encountered earlier (right).

When you’re done looting, search the rocks south of the ruins to find a trail, which you should scan, track and follow around the rock to the east to find Lakhir - the missing Carja guard. He’s very much alive, if a bit delirious, and certainly prepared for death. Seems like his close encounters with machines left her more the worse for fear, physically and mentally. He’s not too keen on being rescued by a Nora, but when faced with the prospect of walking back alone he’ll ask you to recover his bow, which was misplaced when he was attacked by the Snapmaws. If you looted it already, give him his bow back, otherwise, go kill those Snapmaws and get it! Once he’s been reunited with his bow this quest will end.

Objective Rewards
For rescuing what was left of the Carja patrol 3,750 XP
