Starting Shadows Crossing

You’ll regain control in the Veil Jumpers camp in Arlathan Forest, the first major region of Dragon Age: The Veilguard. While you won’t have too much freedom in what you can do yet, there is a new shop for you to take a look at, and selling your valuables you’ve gathered so far will not only generate Gold, but also raise your Faction Strength. This is important, as you’ll want to ideally get all of the Faction’s Strength to 3 Stars by the end of the adventure, done by completing quests and selling valuables.

Once you’re ready to get Shadows Crossing underway, leave the camp via the northern exit and head to the clearing, you’ll find a boat that will take you over toward D’Meta’s Crossing.

(1 of 2) Make use of the shop to increase your Faction Strength.

Find the Villagers

As soon as you pull up to the village, it’s clear that all is not right with D’Meta’s Crossing, what was once a bustling village, is now shrouded in a thick fog and silence. Your first task, then, is to attempt to establish contact with the villagers and work out what has happened here.

Once you regain control, leave the dock by heading south and following the path into the village. You’ll find the entrance barricaded, so climb over to the right of it and you’ll quickly learn that the Blight has infected the village. Continue on and you’ll find a villager who is clearly infected, and you’re directed to the town square.

Investigate the Town Square

Continue to follow the path to the west and break the wooden boards in the next house that blocks your way. As you head into the town square beyond, you’ll see that the Blight has taken root everywhere, so look to the north and you’ll find a large Blight Boil you can burst. Do so, and head into the house to find a small chest and a tattered note, then continue around to the other side of the town square and continue to follow the path to the east.

Search for Surviving Veil Jumpers

While you follow this path, you’ll run into another “survivor”, who mentions that they were tasked with finding the missing Veil Jumpers and bringing them to the mayor. Continue following the path and you’ll run into more people near a Blight Boil, burst it and you’ll finally run into the two Veil Jumpers you were looking for. You’ll learn that the gods are the ones responsible for this, and soon after, you’ll hear a villager call out for help.

Go south and burst the nearest Boil to enter a house with some loot and a small chest, pocket it all and then continue south and burst another Boil to make your way to the villager.

(1 of 2) Burst the Boil to enter a house full of loot.

Choice: Save or Leave Mayor Julius

You’ll learn that the voice belongs to Mayor Julius, who is somehow still alive. After some back and forth, you’ll have a choice here to make that will have some ramifications later in the adventure, either you leave him to his fate here, or cut him down and save him. To learn more about what these choices impact, check out our Choices guide. Rest assured, no endings are tied to this choice, so you won’t have to worry about that when deciding on how to deal with Mayor Julius.

Following the scene, you’ll find yourself back at Ruins Reach in Arlathan Forest, head back to the Veil Jumpers camp to report your findings to bring this quest to a close.
