Kataranda the Stormrider Quest Location

To begin with, you’ll need to make sure you’ve progressed the main quest to Act 2, and after the Fire and Ice quest. This will cause many companion quests to become available at the Lighthouse, which you’ll want to start working on. You’ll also need to make sure you’ve completed the previous quests in Taash’s companion questline, including "Slaying the Fangscorcher" iconSlaying the Fangscorcher, the previous quest.

Once you’ve accepted the quest, head for the Hall of Valor and read the posting on the board in the bar to learn the details of this dragon hunt and, when you’re ready, agree to assist Taash with taking down Kataranda the Stormrider.

Head to the Hall of Valor and examine the board to get the quest underway.

Search for Treasure

Once you find yourself in the Rivain Coast, head to the shore at the Winding Shoreline to find a boat that you can examine. After, look carefully around this area to find meltable objects that are susceptible to Taash’s Dragonfire, so use this on the objects around here and you’ll find some Treasure you can use.

The next beach can be found by traveling to the next Beacon to the east and going down to where you fought the previous dragon here, in the large opening. Examine the wreck, and then some interactable digspots will show up, have the Griffon perform the task and you’ll find the second piece of treasure. Fortunately, the third wreck is nearby, go over to it and then take the ladder to the north to the Clifftops area.

(1 of 3) The first treasure is located on the Winding Shoreline.

The third treasure has been carried off by a bird to this location, so head to the northernmost marker (near the Beacon) to find the bird and the final piece of treasure you need to lure out Kataranda. Return to the large opening (Dragon Beach) where you found the second treasure and you can place the treasures to begin the battle.

Confront Kataranda

As you might have already expected, Kataranda is another High Dragon like Fangscorcher, only this one focuses more on using electrical-based attacks against you. To make things even more complicated, the arena you fight Kataranda in is even deadlier, as there are plenty of opportunities for it to electrify the water which covers a lot of it. Pay attention to your surroundings at all times, there are raises parts of the beach you can stand on to avoid that attack.

Kataranda is weak to Necrotic, as such, bringing one of Lucanis or Emmrich along for the ride is a good idea to take advantage of it. If you’ve fought other High Dragons, you’ll know how the battle works, close in to the limbs and attack any that glows for weak point damage. Deal enough Stagger damage and you’ll topple the dragon, allowing you access to the heart where you’ll deal massive damage.

(1 of 3) Kataranda can direct electrical bolts at your current position.

Kataranda can attack from range with electrical bolts, use the ground pound attack that all dragons use (she will rise in the sky and then come crashing down, dealing massive damage), along with other melee swipes. She’s her deadliest, however, when she retreats from the area as she will cast continuous bolts of lightning or conjure an electrical storm, this will make it so any contact with the water will electrify you. Make sure you identify a piece of land that is raised and stay on it until she returns to the arena.

For the most part, Kataranda is one of the easier High Dragons you can battle in Dragon Age: The Veilguard, and using the same tactics for all of them will work wonders here. Avoid the electrical storm attack by not standing in the water, and it won’t take long to defeat her, rewarding you with you’ll obtain 1,000 XP, some "Dragon Scales" iconDragon Scales, three Dragonfire Catalysts, and +200 Lords of Fortune Strength. Finally, before you leave, you can claim the treasure that Kataranda was hoarding that contains the "Unyielding Stone" iconUnyielding Stone amulet!
